Huge Cars and Coffee at a Dragstrip in Mississippi

Yesterday there was a gathering of about 5-600 different cars in Gulfport, MS. It was $10 to get in and you could run the strip as many times as you want or just show your car. Only bad thing is track wasn’t prepped at all.

I figured why not try out the car on track while I’m there. Spoiler: I raced a Tesla and spun like crazy. Still had fun.

I didn’t take many pictures as it was hot as hell, but there were a few nice bimmers there (including a few F80s, a new M5 comp, and a fast X4M) and a bunch of Supras (one of which hit the wall on the track).

Vid of race below.

Looks like a great time. Except for the Supra. That’s a bad day.

Looks like you were reeling in the appliance on wheels further down the track!! Next time challenge him to the best of 10 runs. 😀

I was definitely catching him. Had I not spun so bad, it may have been even a little closer.

Its funny you mention about best of 10 runs. He made like 3 more runs and was out of there. There were plenty Tesla's there. I told my buddy it's just sooo boring. Good news was I'm able to hear my car only

This was an 8-900 WHP Supra. He said in the Facebook group that he sold for $25K to someone across the country before he even left the track.

He was not very smart with the car, so that may have been his best bet anyways. It was spinning bad, he got out of it, then got back in it. Nobody was winning anything, so it was silly to push it that hard.

Ahhh the sound! Just thinking of it makes me smile! Tesla dude probably had to limp mode to the nearest Starbucks for a two hour coffee break so he could get home. 😜. Not to hijack this good thread, but did you see the WSJ article this weekend written by a NOLA journalist who drove a battery powered car to Chicago and back?

Sad, but probably best a guy like that crashes it in a controlled environment and even better if he really did then sell it straight away. Bragging rights I guess on the HP thing. I don’t get the “let’s see how many HP I can make” and then the whole thing grenades itself. But that’s the beauty of this hobby that there is something for everyone to have fun.

Here is a link with sound.

I did not see this article. But every NOLA journalist is a hack, especially if they work for The Times Picayune. It wasn't always that way.
