M2C 2NH Street Brake Pads

I want to change my brake pads to a far less dusting pad. Pretty much all the threads I've found were for track duty and I only use mine for street. I've found a few options for these brakes that are said to reduce brake dust dramatically. Part numbers in case anyone else finds it useful.

Hawk Performance Ceramic
Front - HB828Z.760
Rear - HB193Z.670

EBC Redstuff
Front - DP32148C
Rear - DP31127C

Porterfield R4-S
Front - AP1648-R4S
Rear - APF40-R4S

The only pads I have experience with besides OEM are Akebono and unfortunately they don't offer pads for these brakes. Otherwise I would have gotten them no question.

Any insight on these others options from people who have had experience with them before? Low dust and noise are a priority, slight drop in bite is fine for me, I find the OEMs bite too hard any way and am starting to hear some squealing.

Thanks!

for less dust and decent initial bite, these are the best option. i've used them in multiple vehicles for myself, wife's, and parents'...just make sure you get the Semi-Metallic (and NOT the ceramic).

Ceramic pads work great if it's street-only, most Japanese eco-friendly cars use them. :

Where did you find the Hawk ceramic part numbers? I was looking on Hawks website and all it comes up are HB765 for the front. I know 2NH shares the same calipers of other models but not sure of the pad sizes.

https://www.hawkperformance.com/part...84&note=400400

Would like to give ceramic a try myself.

I basically searched other cars that use the same pad shape as our calipers. Then realized the letter (Z F B) corresponded to the compound. Z: Performance Ceramic, F: HPS, B: HPS 5.0.

I would recommend against the EBC pads for the M2C. The backing material on the rear pads doesn't wrap around the edges of the pads like the stock ones so you'll hear a pretty loud thunk from the pads shifting before/after reversing and some rattles on rough roads.

I have done a LOT of research and tested a few pads on my Z4M and Mazda 3. I would give you the following advice:

1. Ceramic pads won't ever bite like more aggressive organic/semi-metal pads.
2. The M2C's brakes are way overboosted and very touchy, so they could actually benefit from less bite.
3. I was not impressed with Hawk HPS 5.0 on my Mazda 3, due to low initial bite. That might be fine for the M2C given the touchy pedal. The HPS 5.0 are significantly less dusty than the OEM Mazda pad which was similar to an OEM BMW pad.

Conclusion - OEM is safest, you know it'll fit perfectly and be good on the street. If you really must tinker, the Hawk HPS 5.0 is a pad with less initial bite and less dust. Other options that have favorable reviews are Porterfield R4S and Ferodo DS2500. I have only used the Hawks so I can't vouch for the other two. The Hawk will definitely be less dusty than the BMW pad. I am not sure it's better all the time, though. I'd probably avoid the ceramic pads but I haven't tried them so I can't say. The Centric semi-metal Posi-Quiet pads should be similar to OEM - but I don't know how much less dusty they are.

I've been looking all over for a decent ceramic pad. I applaud you for being able to find part numbers.

I've had the ebc redstuff on my prior cars with very good results. I'll probably be going with those on my m2c.

cheers!

I have Ferodo DS2500 on rear and can concur on "thunk" noise when reversing. Not terrible but definitely there.

Yes actually. I was giving some time before I posted my experiences but I forgot to make an update.

So I went with the Hawk Performance Ceramic pads. Been running them since February. About 2800 miles on them now.

-Less bite.
-Much less bite for the first 2-3 stops in the morning.
-About the same stopping power after the bite.
-Wasn't getting any squealing until a month or two ago and I only get it backing out of the drive way. Never any while driving.
-Fitment is a little looser than OEM. After washing the car and I do my reverse and forward into the garage to shake water loose I hear a click as they move in the calipers.
-Rear pads don't have slots to put the wear sensor.
-Much much less brake dust.

In my opinion it's not worth it unless you REALLY want less brake dust. They work fine and I'll keep them in until I need to replace them. But then I'll go back to OEM unless Akebono releases pads for these calipers. The front calipers are a bit of a pain to switch out compared to the rear so I don't really feel the need to change them out until I have to.

Dave Z covers this issue with most aftermarket pads with the otherwise correct dimension profile: https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/i...th=3_7079_8092. I think it's a rear pad only issue, and if you just peal off the wrap around shim from the stock pad and apply it to the aftermarket pad, the forward/reverse click will go away.

Same. EBC brake pads are by far the worse pads i have ever come across and used. would steer well clear. their quality is rubbish and fell to bits on one track day. Wouldnt touch them if they were given to me for free. Would touch them period

Are these the correct pads for an M2C?

Well which EBC pads did you use on track? A street pad?

I've heard enough bad things on several forums to be weary of EBC. Not saying they are all bad, but I've come across several reports of them crumbling over the years.

I've heard of issues with EBC pads on more recent & heavier cars on track. I know several drivers also talk about liking the feel of the EBCs but the issue being terrible wear/longevity.

I think if you were using them on the street they might be alright, or might just wear more quickly. I wouldn't trust them on track, if you didn't watch them really carefully then I'd hate to find out how quickly they'd worn out when you reach a braking zone. Although when it comes to rotors, I wouldn't be as concerned.

So much hearsay. When looking for 2nh pads for my CCB spec M3 (I did an iron brakes conversion up front), I dug deep into many pads and the EBC pad complaint many offer up is from people overheating street pads on track. If you use an EBC race pad, you won’t have issue. I personally use EBC’s new RP-X pad and it’s freaking amazing, full (high & stable) coefficient of friction from 0C to 850C, no on track squeal, very minimal squeal on street, non corrosive dust.

Running full r comps as well, 305 squared in a heavy M3...the EBC RP-X pads take abuse like a champ.
