Brake service indicator issue

At 30k (kms) on my M2C I got a service message saying that the front pads were due in 2k. At that point the indicator did not further go down despite driving the car for an additional 2k.
Although a quick look at the (outside) pad suggest there was still quite some meat I brought the car to the dealership. They reported an issue with the indicator and reset the system so that it showed 16k until front pads service is due. I am now monitoring the evolution of the indicator but to my surprise it seems like dropping by 1k every actual 0.2 k . It is now showing 8k before service.
Anyone with similar experience. Is there a specific issue on my car or is this indicator just a useless/misleading feature of modern cars? Guess there is an algorithm behind this system, anyone know what are the key parameters influencing the estimated remaining mileage calculation ?
Thanks

The car has brake pad wear sensors (one in the front and one in the rear I believe). I'm no expert but I would gather that the service indicator works with the car's mileage in combination with the sensor data. If you're getting a light despite having lots of pad life I would guess that you have a faulty sensor.

You have a faulty brake pad wear sensor it seems. If they didn't replace it, you should make them. Resetting something faulty won't rid the problem.
