2018 M2 - DIY Build

I might as well join in the fun over here. I am a new owner of a 2018 BMW M2.

Instagram Account: bng_n55

A little intro with links ...!

Bought my first car, a 2004 VW Golf 2.slow in 2009. Then, I purchased a 2014 WRX Wagon caught the mod bug, first time playing with a tune, coilovers, etc. Lasted 33,000 miles.

Purchased a 2013 STI Sedan[/URL], took it to full crazy mode. Lasted 28,000 miles.

Then fell back into a 2013 Golf R that I absolutely loved. Lasted 24,000 miles.

Unfortunately for me, a colleague of mine took me on a track where I got to drive his 2016 GT2RS. Sold my Golf R three weeks later, and bought a 1989 Land Cruiser so that I could save up for an M2.

After 3 years of dailying my 1989 Land Cruiser (which has had quite a few ups and downs), I now have a winter and summer car. I've put 25,000 miles on the Land Cruiser, hope to keep it going!

I purchased the vehicle from the second owner in Olympia, Washington. When I bought it on 10/16 the vehicle had 21,998 miles on it. The previous owner (2nd owner) installed KW V3 Coilovers and Ground Control Camber Plates. There appears to be some type of aftermarket tune (small box with a shark) and Turner Motorsports paperwork.

I drove the vehicle home in two days from Olympia to Denver.

And now sharing the garage with the Land Cruiser:

Congrats and enjoy. Might want to reconsider the tire sizes for 9.5/10.5. I'm also I'm the front range and there are excellent snap-on torque wrench deals from mechanics on Craigslist from time to time.

Good luck with your build!

Yes to the torque wrenches, I tried to get one last weekend but it was sold already.

I am planning to start with the conti's - I like the stretch of the narrower tires. But from a performance standpoint, the reason to go wider wheels is for wider tires, so you're right - I'll fuss around with options once I see what kind of drop I can achieve with the stock tires and then bump up 255/275.

I just got new wheels, 20x10.5/9.5, +35/+22 so pretty similar width/offset wise and am running 275/30 and 255/30. The fitment is nearly perfect and has pretty much no rub even at full low on kw has. Loving the setup so far can throw the car into corners hard with no rub and it handles very well

Edit: not trying to hijack thread lol just figured this could help

Gloss Black Side Markers

Purchased lightly used (seem test fitted) Gloss Black Side Markers.

Bought 3M Adhesive Promoter, and rubbed it all over the used 3M tape. It worked wonders, very happy with the result.

Leather Treatment

Decided to clean the leather inside the car today. Back when I had my VW Golf R, I loved Chemical Guys stuff.

So I'm using the same stuff as before.

Turner Motorsport TM55

I also found this in the trunk of the car today. Last owner didn't mention this, in fact, I'm not sure he even knew about it, as it was hidden in the boot under the flap by the battery and such.

Emailed Turner Motorsport to ask if they can tell me what's on the car and any of its history.

Well, I decided to go aggressive.

Ordered wheels from DSG - Canadian Dealer. Strong dollar and a sale, helped to get a very good price.

We'll see if I live to regret going so aggressive, certainly won't be the optimum track set, but the setup with 255/275/35/19 should be fun for the street and have the aggressive look i am hoping for.

If they end up being too aggressive, I'm sure there will be an M3/M4 owner will be happy to scoop them off of me without the normal Volk RAYS wait - and then I'll order the 19x10 et30's.

Most importantly, they will match the Volks already on my 1989 Land Cruiser.

Tire Order:

Excited to get the two cars squared off nose to nose for a photo.

Those are going to be sweet. The front should fit no issue with that tire setup. Rear will be aggressive but think you'll be ok. Worst case can probably just buy camber arms of some sort and dial in a little more camber.
My first set of wheels for the m2 was the "m2 competition fitment" from titan7 which was 10.5+44 and 9.5+27. Looked good but wanted something more aggressive so ended up getting the ones I posted above. If you're wanting an aggressive setup for mainly street use (like me) think you'll be pleased with your choice.

I'm sure Turner will get back to you but going by the Shark logo on the box, I think the car has some kind of tune by a guy named Jim Conforti. Have not heard much about him in the past few years but he was 'the man' back in the E36 / E46 days. I think tuning software on BMWs was a hobby, I think he was a software guy for Microsoft, IBM, or some other big computer outfit but I could easily be mistaken about that.

In the first pic you posted, I like how you are parked in front of the no parking sign...BMW Drivers for the win! lol

Interesting about the tune!

Couldn't pass up the opportunity for the pic in Seattle! I was only there for the pic then got back in and on my way

Today I received my car back from my Detailer: Denver Auto Shield.

I had the vehicle Paint Corrected and Stage II Gyeon Ceramic Shield. Car looks brilliant, with an unreal shine. Excited for the winter weather in Denver to chase away so I can drive the car and see how easy it is to wash and dry.

I was scheduled to have DWS-06 All-Season tires installed yesterday, so in anticipation - I lifted the car onto 4 jack stands for the first time with my new Schwaben Low Profile Jack and Schwaben jack stands.

The tire installer only showed up with two tires, so I am trying to figure out where my second two tires are, but I had the IND 80mm studs sitting on my workbench and with the car already lifted - I decided to give it a go.

Not a huge fan of how far out the studs project from the hubs. I have a set of Te37's coming, that I plan to install Project Kics with, I will probably plan to swap out the 80mm studs when I get the wheels next spring.

I tried to put together a DIY with my iPhone and DJI Gimbal. Video attempt to follow.

Lifted the car up again tonight to check the torque of the wheel studs and haul the OEM's to the tire shop.

I picked up my conti DWS-06's from Tire Rack - going to put these on for winter and shoulder season weather.

Car looked cool up on the jack stands.

What size DWS tires did you go with?

I'm still on the fence about then. Interested to hear your thoughts once you use them.

I did the standard size 245f/265r/35/19

I have a winter vehicle as well, so I am not worried about driving in the snow, just the dry cold. I'll let you know how they feel, being mounted this morning.
