On an R32, Mine's offered an equal length down pipe back in the 90s. It goes way way back before that, nothing new about it.
It's different in that it's adding additional piping, bends, and weight relative to an unequal-length setup. Can you elaborate on how this would improve performance over an equivalent, unequal-length setup? If there are performance benefits, that obviously changes things.

Since you mentioned the AA mid section, I believe that cuts weight and adds a little power (so not just for sound), not to mention it saves having to cut your stock exhaust to change out the droopy rear section. Having said that, I personally prefer to leave emissions equipment (primary/secondary cats) in tact, so I probably will remain stock or just get an axle back. I'm probably not in the target market for this, so just my $.02.

Equal length setups (whether it be headers or down pipes, or possibly even an entire mid pipe), often take advantage of scavenging. There is a ton and a half of research around exhaust scavenging, but it mostly only applies to headers/manifolds. I'm not necessarily claiming that this equal length setup will result in more power than an unequal length setup, but I'm also not saying the opposite; just that it COULD have an advantage. It's so far back that it'll be neglible, if anything at all.

I'm in the market for an exhaust, and since the car already weighs so dang much, I don't really care if an UEL setup weighs 10 lbs less than a EL setup. It's such a tiny margin that it won't matter. I'm just looking for what sounds the best and what is priced appropriately. Both of those criteria are purely opinions.

Not bad, I wanna see the AA system as well, but I like it. I might confirm these prices through a local shop.

I am just curious any distributor here in USA market selling Bastuck exhaust?? This definitely sounds amazing to me, and it's not too loud to put off my neighbors.

Does sound pretty good in the video

https://www.bastuck.de/gb/bmw-m2-f87-eng/

According to the website, they show only one US retailer (with no business name or phone number)

Is Akrapovic the best exhaust solution given the below:

- slip on solution needed (I want to keep the full warranty for the car, so no tune)
- OPF in place (I guess my car has the OPF but I am not sure. Any help is much appreciated. the production date is Sept 2018, made for German market)
- it should be reasonably loud without any drone

The new Milltek equal length system is super raspy... Doesn't tame the S55 sound at all, IMO.

Sorry, not to confuse you, but this is their new equal setup. From what I understand, the original UEL setup will be sold along side the new EL setup. The video is of the EL.

No confusion. I just believe if this EL sounds so tinny, that the original would be no different. The UEL Milltek video I watched had high flow down pipes and full exhaust, so who knows what just the cat back sounds like.

Starting at 7:24 you can hear the exhaust in comfort and sports+

That's with full turbo back. Would be quieter leaving stock cats.

I wouldn't necessarily rule out the original Milltek system just yet (assuming they're still planning on making them)

If you look at the comparison pic between the old and the new setup @ around the 52 second mark in the video, you will notice that the old setup has an additional muffler/resonator which is not present in the new setup

The additional muffler in the original design cuts down considerably on the rasp

I have the Milltek original exhaust with ECE muffler and I asked them if I can pair the EL pipe with the central resonator, this is the reply.
Quote:
With regards your enquiry the equal length link pipe can be installed however you will not get the full advantage.

The use of both the centre silencer replacement pipe and the equal length axle pipe is what provides the unique sound we have managed to obtain.
But I can't remove the central resonator since i run with OPF-bypass midpipes and it would be too loud.

Thank you for pointing that out. I wonder what the UEL would sound like if I just put it on as an axle back and kept the stock mid pipe with 2nd cats and resonator. I might be tempted to try that. If I don't like it I can always install the rest of the system.

Or The EL axle back with resonator delete on the stock mid pipe? So many options. lol

Mine doesn’t sound like that...
I still have all the cats and OPF’s in place so perhaps they actually help with the sound?
The only time makes a noise remotely like the one in the video is when the engine is cold - once warm it’s fine.
It sounds so much better when going through the gears, and as ever, trying to pick out the sound on a computers speakers isn’t ever going to give a true reflection.

Do you have the EL or UEL? So, you put it on as an axle back? Other than cutting the stock pipes did you have to do any other mods to the exhaust?
