Great observation! The kidney grilles that serve no functional purpose on the i3 and i8 bother me a great deal too.

I really like it for my wife. A small sedan and not the big 3 series thats looks like the 5 or even the 7 series.
Im hopping it comes out next year when our lease ends.

It is the design that worries me!

Yes its FWD but with xDrive also.

The front and rear end looks something like this. And will be available as a Sport hatch also.
As much as I enjoy the RWD feel of a car, as an owner of UKL Mini I am now confident that BMW can pull of the sheer driving pleasure thing with the next 1' going on the same platform.

The issue I am struggling with is dull design that seems to have plagued the brand recently. I really hope that lines are more distinctive and emotive than the renders shown.

Also, with the 4 going upmarket and getting heavier as result, the next 2' coupe should be based on 3up to keep a distinct driving offer in the segment and serve as exciting entry point to the core BMW range.

It looks like a baby 3, which is not a good design to begin with. Needs to get a lot sharper to compete with Audi A3 and CLA. Hope this is not the direction they are going.

The speculation render is ugly, and the car is FWD!

Perfect combination

Won't get dual exhausts like that. Latest rumors were that there would only be a 125i at most in the states, which is sad, but likely won't command enough power to require dual exhausts.

Why not? The current 125i has twin pipes.

This is so wrong .
Get us a 2 series Gran Coupé instead with proper RWD.

Didn't like the renders.
I hoped this would be a modern e36, but looks like its an attempt to make another volvo s40

Though I predict it will sell beyond BMW's wildest dreams, especially here in the US. I really really hope it fails, and fails horribly here. A failed FWD experiment that is killed after the first generation never to be shown again.

A3 looks a lot better than that rendering. I don't know, if I had to get a fwd car. I would get an Audi. A3 at least has a dual clutch transmission. I saw an S3 the other day, looks really nice on the road.

I still don't get the switch to fwd after all these years. I guess it has to do with cost savings and sharing platforms.

Follows in line with all automakers trying to fill every possible market gap that exists.

The render is not representative of the car which we showed today.
The render is a lazy manipulation of a 1er and Active Tourer.
The car is striking and very modern , very chiseled at the front and rear , the facia conforms to the next generation of compact BMWs and BMW styling in general with L shaped headlights.
The best thing is the body is well camouflaged so that it looks condensed and bulky but it is very svelte and sporty in the metal. With its longish front end and short rear deck as per the E36 and E46 3er models.
Where it will be positioned it will be a huge seller.

I think it's way too early to speculate how good or bad this car will drive. Don't get me wrong, I like my RWD BMW's, but there are also plenty of examples of really fun driving FWD cars. MINI's, Focus ST, GTI, Civic Type R...

Obviously, if done right, it CAN be fun. We'll see I guess.

P.S. I think that render looks pretty good actually. I like that better than a base F30

That's a Polo? Not a direct competitor. Jetta maybe? But not the Polo.
