Rather loud brakes
Hi all,
My brakes squeal rather badly and have done since I bought the car. This is apparently normal. The manual describes it rather coyly as "functional noise". Being new to relatively high performance vehicles I'm not sure if I should be proud of the noise or legitimately annoyed. So is this normal? If not, is there anything that can be done about it? Thanks. Car is a 2021 M2 Competition |

Very normal. Brake harder more often and it will go away. It will also come back. Part of having race brakes (sort of).

Totally normal. I just wish mine squealed more consistently 😁

its strange I never had much squealing with the oem pads. Now on track pads and now it sounds like a I am a bus stopping at a bust stop lol but before was pretty quite.

Fastest way to eliminate it is the do a few hard stops, or left foot brake with your right on the gas pedal. Do that 3x's letting the surfaces cool for 30 seconds or so between each action. It has always worked for me if I'm in the mood to get rid of the noise. I kind of like it...

It could also be the pads against the guides, and if that's the case you'll need to apply abit of anti-squeal.

Mine squeal when coming to a gentle stop, probably more often than not. I'd rather not hear it, but it doesn't really bother me too much.
I've read here that carbotech street pads almost completely eliminate the noise, but you'll be sacrificing brake power. |

I found the stock brakes to be sensitive & "grabby" at slow speeds and
they threw a lot of brake dust & squealed quite a bit. I installed a set of HWAK Ceramic brake pads front & rear Part #'s: (Front - HB828Z.760 Rear - HB193Z.670) All of the issues mentioned above were resolved. The only caveat is that on the rear pads there is no provision for the wear sensor, which for me wasn't a big deal as I just tied it off to the side. Good luck! |

Bed them in properly - for street pads you probably don't need as many repetitions, but most people don't really work them hard enough - get at or close to ABS and then flooring it to keep interval short. It won't eliminate noise, but keeps it to a minimum.
or if all else fails, do a site search and you can see the multiple other posts on this same topic, complete w/ other pad suggestions, etc. |

The Dachshund - few ceramic pads out there you might look into - typically less squeal and dust. Also this stuff usually works well too -
BG Stop Squeal Used it along with some ceramic pads on my wife's F85 X5M which sounded like a freight train stopping from day one. Worked extremely well and have used it on customer cars that have complained about squeal with good results as well. |
