2020 BMW M2C vs 2020 Ford SuperDuty F-350
With all these comparisons out there that don't really match up, like measuring the versatile M2 (in any form) vs dedicated track weapons, I decided to do my own that makes much more sense. The M2 has back seats, so I wanted to see how it stacks up to another vehicle that has back seats.
2020 BMW M2C vs 2020 Ford SuperDuty F-350 So, for starters, they're both forced induction motors, but the Ford is a diesel and in a Vee configuration. But the Bimmer has 2 turbos. On paper, the Ford makes quite a bit more power, 475hp with 1050lbs of tq. That eclipses the Bimmers 405/406 figures. But the F-350 weighs slightly more than the M2, so the Bimmer is quicker off the line (on pavement anyways). The Bimmer also gets the nod with fuel economy as well, easily earning 18-20 MPGs. The best the Ford got was 17. The Bimmer kept gaining points with the ladies when wearing dresses. It's beaver flash city when climbing into the truck but the lower BMW doesn't present the same dilemma. So, really, it's a win for the Ford...unless its fat chicks getting in the truck. In that case, everybody is a looser. Where the Ford F-350 really outshines the BMW is with 5th wheel towing capacity. Fords can be optioned with a tow prep package where a hitch can be just dropped in the bed. The F-350 can tow somewhere in the neighborhood of a 12.3 gazillion lbs when using a 5th wheel. The Bimmer doesn't have a 5th wheel towing option. Disappointing it's not available, but at least Apple CarPlay is free now. That's one bright spot for the Bimmer for sure though, Apple CarPlay is wifi and so much better than using a cable. Wireless charging sucks in both vehicles though, but no testing has been done with the new Apple MagSafe stuff....but it probably still sucks. Ok, on to what really matters, the back seat stuff. The Bimmer is alright because there's room for a backpack, purse or clutch (tiny purse). Maybe a small child if you're unfortunate to have one. The trunk partition folds down if you need to stuff more small humans back there, but technically, that's not that legal. Space is definitely at a premium. The F-350 on the other hand, when equipped as a crew cab 4 door, has room for days. Enough room to fool around with the previously reported girl wearing the dress (not the fat one, c'mon). But overall; the win has to go to the BMW (this is a BMW fan forum after all). Despite its many faults and piss poor towing numbers, it's a fantastic car and costs far less than any optioned diesel truck from America's big three. The M2 (in any trim) is almost damn near the perfect car. Its tiny, but room for 2 full size adults and their backpacks, get's shitty mileage because it has a bad ass motor and a pair of dope transmission options. And just looks cool as hell. Plus, easier to park than a crew cab long box truck. Make your own comparisons though. This is just, like, my opinion man. Next up, I'm going to compare the 2020 M2C against a 2004 United States Air Force International R-11 Jet-A fuel truck. Stay tuned.

Hmmm. You know.... I think that the EPS of the current model line up is just trash and the F350 is more in line with the classic steering feel that we expect from the BMW brand. I long for the feel that my Flintstone Mobile offered back in the day when cars were actually engaging - WTF are those dopes in Germany even thinking? I do two autox and a track day a year so it's super important. Of course, I only bring this up because I'm an accomplished F1 driver and the current models just can't cope with my advanced driving skills. Also, I find the sound of the Ford to be far superior to the terrible S55 noise. How do people even drive the POS?!
I'm considering a new daily driver and I'm debating on either one of the new M4's or a (pre-owned, maybe CPO??) Winston Cup car. How do those compare? Can I fit four baby seats in the back? I reproduce. A lot. I'm sure that there's many people cross-shopping these, I can't be the only one. -T |
