Kkakonn's M2 Comp Build Journal (A touch of JDM)

**Update Post #24 June 20, 2019**

Had the opportunity to get back into an M2 over the weekend (Previously had a non comp pre facelift M2) Decided to get a little crazy with the color instead of my usually White or Silver route and went with long beach blue. Absolutely love the color in person, especially in different lighting. Anyway, here are a few photos. Executive package, and manual were the only options along with a few dealer add on M performance parts.

The old M2

and the track car

Fricken beautiful! More pics please. This is reinforcing my choice of going with the LBB.

Solid start, your car looks awesome! I’ve been piling up some mods already for my incoming M2C.

What else do you have planned? Any particular reason you chose the V3 coilovers over Ohlins R&T?

Thanks! I've gone with Ohlins RT on several of my previous vehicles and never really got to like them. For me they were overly stiff for day to day street driving and very soft on the track (even when maxed out the settings) KW V3's have always been a great compromise and balance when it comes to street/track. I love that I can independently adjust compression and rebound. Originally I had planned to do a more aggressive coilover like I have on my E46 (JRZ Motorsport 2 way) But i felt like it would be overkill. My goal for this car was to have something I can drive around every day, do weekend cruises, and the occasional track day in.

After I recover (financially) from this round of mods I'd like to add a tasteful sounding exhaust, and maybe some recaro sportser seats.

How do you find the M2C compared to the GT4?

I currently own a GT4 and am adding an M2C to the garage in July (European delivery!) and am counting down the days!

I'm very curious to see how it'll compare. I've posted a bunch of guesses as to how it might feel and there's a bit of a discussion going here if you're interested!

In short I suspect to get more enjoyment out of the M2C, even though the GT4 is the "better" car.

I haven’t driven a GT4 but I doubt the M2C is going to be more enjoyable, unless a better daily driver is your criteria for enjoyment. I’d take a 997.2 C2S over a regular M2 any day for enjoyment as an example - but it’s a less practical car, no technology and less comfort. The M2 is going to be a lot more numb than a GT car I am sure.

If you’re big into oversteer then the M2C will be more fun.

I'm definitely a fan of oversteer haha. I feel like the M2C will be more playful, but the real reasons I think I'll get more enjoyment out of it are that I won't have to worry about it, I can drive it year-round, take it to cottages, camping, park it anywhere, not worry about mileage, fit more people in it, and just kind of do whatever I want with it. i realize it's not a Corolla or anything, but it's a car that I'm going to drive rain or shine, and not worry about it in any way. The GT4 is incredible, and the sound is intoxicating...but unless I'm on the track it feels like I'm just wasting it when I drive it around, stuck in traffic.

Thats exactly the reason I added the M2C. I rarely take the GT4 out in fear of someone hitting it or getting scratched at some parking lot. It doesn't come close to the GT4 in terms of driving feel, and there is a disconnect while driving the M2C. However its a great all arounder, and its "enough" fun to still keep you interested.

Good to know! Are you finding it better in any ways though? Torque, FR handling, etc.?

Also, how does the sound system compare to the one in the GT4?

Torque down low is nice, especially around town. Interior space is more comfortable for me at my size (6'4) Handing is good enough but i wouldn't say its close to the GT4. I took that thing to the canyons last week and it just feels special every time I drive it.

Haha unfortunately I always get stuck in traffic in and out of the city, so I enjoy the sound system in the GT4, which I find to be really good.

That IS of course in comparison to my 1998 328i, so maybe that's why it sounds so good, but I have to say, it sounds better than most new cars I've been in/rented.

But yeah, excited to hear that the M2's is even better!

Just picked up wheels and brakes over the last few days. Hoping to have everything on next week. I picked up 2 sets of TE37s one in Mercury silver (lighter) and one formula silver (dark)
