I replaced the battery with a Duracell 2032 the day I got this fob and still received this error yesterday. Shut the car off and it restarted without any issues. I don't believe this is a battery issue but an odd communication one.

Even a dead key fob battery should allow you to start the car. If you take the battery completely out of the OEM or this fob, the car will not start, which is I believe by design. You can easily test this for yourself with the OEM fob.

A dead key fob battery should still allow the car to start, just not open the doors or trunk without the physical key. My guess is that the battery completes a circuit which allows the car to start. Otherwise a driver could be stranded in the middle of nowhere just due to a dead fob battery.

Interestingly, I've been out of town for 2 weeks and hadn't swapped batteries yet. Just went out for a spin..., no issues.
