M3 / M4 Style Winglet Mirror Caps / Mirrors for M2 - Best?
Hi all,
Want to get some M2 Comp / M3 / M4 style winglet mirrors sorted for my Black Sapphire M2 LCI. I have searched the forum but cannot find a definitive answer to the above. I don't want to spend over £1,000 for genuine M2 Comp mirrors but have seen these autoid ones which look very good value and get good reviews. Autoid used to do just the caps but have now changed so you get the caps panted to order, mirror bezels and bottom bezels as a set: https://autoid.uk.com/collections/ex...=9416952479804 They get decent reviews on the autoid website but has anyone here got them and / or would anyone recommend anything else? Many thanks, Matt. |

Is there any functional advantage to those winglets? The reason I ask is because last time when I squirted some water on my windshield, I was at highway speed, and some of that water made its way to the side door window (about the spot where you'd look through to see the mirror). The water just stayed there moving is a circle. Would these winglets prevent that? |

My mirror covers make no noise. But I understand that they are less aerodynamic than the stock mirror covers. I bought them just for looks and that is why they are on the M2C also.

I have the full Autoid caps and once you get them to fit properly (you have to take care you have the lower tabs lined up before you pop the mirror cap on) they look quite good. They aren't OEM perfect but they are close enough that a normal person would assume they are OEM. At 1/4 the price of OEM I think it's the best route to go.

Also, has anyone seen the autoid and autoteknic ones first hand to compare quality and OE likeness?
Is it possible they are actually the same things from the same manufacturer? Thanks, |

I had the AutoID ones. They are the closest to OEM that I've seen. I'm not sure autotecknic.

No they do not come from the OE manufacturer. The plastic is thinner and the overall quality isn't as high as OEM and fitment is not 100% perfect like OEM. At the price point compared to an OEM retrofit it's totally acceptable and I have has zero noise issues with them. I priced out the OEM retrofit with CF caps and it would have been over $2k CDN which to me simply makes no sense when a much cheaper alternative exists that is nearly as effective. I would rather put $2k into an exhaust or DP or hell just sell my LCI and get an M2C if I want those mirrors bad enough as there becomes a point where it just doesn't make sense to make expenditure like this on items that are standard on the new model.

I can't answer your other question as I don't have these aftermarket mirrors but my guess would be that the behaviour is the same. |

AutoId ones are the best non-OEM option that I have seen. A bit picky to install, but not too bad (takes about an hour), probably easier/faster if you can wrangle a second set of hands.
They look decent for the $ in my opinion. Way cheaper than retrofitting OEM, plus you don't have to take off the door cards. Here's a pic of them... . .. Last edited by F87_LCI; 06-21-2019 at 06:34 PM.. |

They do look good. How do you install these, the 3 piece ones? There is no guide on the autoid site. Do you have to take off the door panels or can it be done without doing this? Thanks, |

I've had two replacement sets of the full auto id mirrors and no matter what I do they end up whistling at highway speeds. If I had it to do over I wouldn't spend the money, as I think it's a gamble whether you get good fitting ones or not. Get the real m2 competition mirrors or just be happy with the oem ones.
