I did not know our cars had this feature - I guess I need to teach my daughter how to drive stick using the M2 instead of the wife's Mini Cooper (or the 1M).

If you could buy a self balancing bicycle for your child to learn to ride a bike on... would you ?

Does one start a child to ride horseback without first teaching how to climb into the saddle ?

I think your daughter is much better off learning on an ACTUAL manual car like the Mini Cooper or the 1M. ( the 1M *does* have hill holder , so if the Mini doesn't .. then the Mini is the best " school car " in your household)

That way she actually learns what a clutch friction point is, and how to modulate a clutch.

Learning to drive on an M2 with all the nannies isn't learning much other than to move a shift lever. God forbid she learns to drive a manual like the M2 and gets in a 5MT or 6MT Honda or Miata one day and wonders why it "won't go" off the line ... and the synchros are making noises

I agree, learning on an M2 wouldn't prepare her for a "normal" manual car which is like every other car hahaha...

Definitely teach her in the Mini

Just a heads up,

I was accidentally messing with this setting in bimmercode and realized i fucked up something once my rev match was gone and the start procedure was different. When i restored an older back up to undo this setting the car started normally as it did before, but the rev match didn't come back.

Had to get the car recoded at the dealer.

I’ve switched back multiple times between rev match being disabled and enabled, no issues.

Huh...must have been a connection issue on my end or a bad restore point or something

What are you talking about with LED coding?

They could employ one person whose job is to read the specialised forums, such as ours, and pick up valuable information regarding complaints and fails, and to provide answers. It would hardly break the bank after all.
They are protecting their investment on lease trade ins.

If the vehicle comes back in three years and is destined for the CPO program, I assume they'd flash the ECU and whatever playing around was done with the codes would be put back to factory specs. Is it about making sure that they're not getting back a bunch of cars with fried clutches from inexperienced drivers trying to rev-match and doing so poorly?

I'm not asking because I disagree, I'm asking so I can follow along, thanks.

That sounds like a very likely explanation, at least for the American market. We Europeans all know how to use manuals correctly . Having now done 2000 kms on my manual M2 I'm ashamed to say that I actually like the auto rev matching

You can find this under

"Front Electronic Module" -> "Start engine without clutch" -> "Not active"

In addition to turning Rev Match off, the car now requires two pushes of the start button for the ignition to fire. The first push turns on the accessory mode. The second starts the engine. I also noticed that instead of being able to just lightly press the Start button to turn on the engine, it requires a slightly longer, more determined push.

I'm not sure if there are other effects.

Personally, I like Rev Match, so I went back to the "Active" setting.
Where can I get the software, laptop for this?

Thinking about picking up a M2. Drove the MT and totally dislike the auto rev.

Can anyone confirm this bimmercode method still works on the new MY18?

And are there any other "side affects" besides the double press start button?

And what reason would they have to look at that...
