Depending on how 'friendly' your dealer is, you may want to restore your backups via bimmercode before taking car in.

Man, I tried BSing them about sync issues, told them I wanted to have the backup beep stop when I took it out of reverse (6MT issue), crashing HU, everything I could think of. Rather than upgrading the istep, they removed the rear bumper and "found" a frayed wire that caused the behavior. It was BS of course. Guess they really didn't want to do it.

Anyway, guess I need to make an appointment.

Was using it this morning, then stopped turned the car off and when restarted gone, not even on the menu. Phone still connected via Bluetooth.
Went into the settings menu and it was showing on, turned off and on again no change.
Have been seeing a few posts about changes with iOS 12, wonder if that has something to do with it

I would suggest completely forgetting your car WiFi and CarPlay settings from your iPhone and also forgetting the phone from your car's ConnectedDrive menu and then re-adding. I have iOS 12 and no issues.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I have also found CarPlay to be useless. I must be missing something because I see zero value in CarPlay compared to BMW's systems.

To continue your non-hijack, google maps just became available and Waze should be out in the not too distant future. That begins to make car play useable for me.

I can assure you it's related, otherwise, others would be experiencing the same issue. Sometimes bugs take a while to surface or cause failure like the one you're experiencing. Would be careful about taking your car to the dealer - others have had warranty work declined when aftermarket software was detected.

Works fine for me. iOS12 as well. When that happened in the past, reconnecting works from the menu. One time it did not, and I think I turned the car off and locked it with the key fob. Got back in and all was well.

I also found CarPlay useless until exactly one week ago when they added Google Maps. Now it's awesome.

I got the unicorn car that was ordered with the cell phone connectivity package (in Canada that's the wireless charger, Wi-Fi, and Carplay). The unicorn part is that the car came with the charger and hardware but no Wi-Fi turned on or Carplay installed. Actually getting it added this week.

I used to hate CarPlay until iOS12. we can now use Google Maps and Waze. Back to Awesome!

when it happens, you need to go to your phone Bluetooth settings and delete your BMW off your phone. then try connecting to the car again.

The way it was explained to me at during PCD was that Bluetooth is used to do the initial “handshake” pairing between the phone and the car. After this the phone communicates to the car using WiFi. This is a faster, better quality and more reliable connection from my experience.

OP, try forgetting the devices on both car and phone. Then try holding down the talk button on the steering wheel and use that to start the CarPlay pairing. You then need to use the “CarPlay” setting not the standard “Bluetooth” setting to re-pair the phone in order to get the process to begin correctly. On the iPhone under Settings>General>CarPlay.

Just had to do this in my car after getting the latest vehicle software update at the dealer. Got in the car and all my settings where reset to the default settings, including CarPlay.

Positive it does not

Because I remember when I was driving home from the dealer and 2 hours into the drive I had enough of the damn thing (well it locked up and I could not make or receive any calls) -and I shut off Bluetooth and it kept working

Had to shut the car off!

So in the M2, it uses the Wifi.

I have iOS 12 and no issues.
