interesting.... because my interpretation was that apparently someone in the EU must have looked at the 1M info and copied it on over to the M2 page.... ;-)

I mean.. seriously... what are the odds of two generations of automobile coming in at the EXACT same weight? I would think that Mazda would be a company that is so focused on weight that this could happen with a Miata or something.... but probably not any other manufacturer.

Both look so beautiful. I am glad the 1M made BMW produce a successor. I will hold my breath until I see a Competition package/face lift, I really dislike the current rims used on all m power cars of the generation except the competition package on the m5/m6, hopefully a new iteration of the ones used on the 1M will be used. As with many here, I will never sell my 1M, it only has 115000 km on the odo and counting

Thank you for posting this the color looks good, never been a fan of the sea of boring (white, grey and black) the color should reflect the personality of the car

M2 needs the mirrors and the aggressive look of the rear bumper from the 1M.

Assuming we are going by the numbers BMW put out, the M2 has the same amount of torque (over boost included) as the M1 and only 30 more horsepower and the M2 weighs more. Yet its .3 seconds quicker to 60mph? That's a pretty significant time difference for more weight and a small horsepower difference.
No one can be certain but it could be the shape of the power curve of the two (area under the line, so to speak), how well the car puts the power down, power to weight may be better than you expect, etc.

0-60 is a meaningless stat as far as I'm concerned anyway so it doesn't really matter all that much. Too limited by traction in cars with meaningful power. 1/4 mile (or better yet, rolling 20 mph starts) are far better measures.

M2 looks way better. The opinion of the fangs are always aesthetic; people should commend a car company for leaning for function over looks on occasion (in this case they blended the 2).

reverse that logic & that's what made the M5 go from a beast to a pretty land yacht with underwhelming upgrades

One oversight that people ignore is how little drag the M2 has over the m235i and 1M.

Who cares about Cd.

The people want their " M mirrors "

You mind throwing out the figures on the M235i and M2 ? The 1M has a fairly horrible coefficient of Drag at 0.37.

I do recall hearing in one of the videos about the M2 that Cd was important to M Engineers in the overall design of the M2.

I'm sure that right now at M there are plenty of engineers laughing at forum members that want mirrors, just because, even if they make the car less slippery/slower. They LOOK faster Yo!

EU curb weight M235i (6MT): 1530kg
EU curb weight M2 (6MT): 1570kg

US curb weight M2 (6MT): 1564kg
If you'd add the 75kg driver to make it comparable to the EU measurements, you'd end up with 1639kg in the above comparison.

So if the US weight is correct, that would make the car 109kg (240lbs) heavier than the M235i. Where would that weight come from? Heavy M seats? (Non-M) door mirrors made from solid gold? M4 chassis parts made from lead?

My theory that they simply included the 75kg driver in the US measurement as well seems more plausible to me. The remaining 6kg difference could simply be down to different standard equipment.
As a side note: Their international bmw.com site lists EU weights (+75kg) for the cars as well.

At this point, I rather believe every single specification document released by BMW in Germany than one single translated press release.

Perhaps we're all wrong and the actual weight is 1489kg/3282lbs (US quoted figure - 75kg).

For me the most shocking aero stat for the M2 is the 35% lift reduction from the M235i.
That will be noticeable at high speed on the track.
Bigger effect than any tacked-on splitters or trunk lid spoilers.
(Assuming that the M235i had about as much lift as the average small car.)

No I totally agree with you on this. The front end looks more Jap than Euro. I'm not sure who signed off on the styling cues for the front bumper but is awful. I would be totally ok with 235M bumper with a front lip.

The 1M looks very dated next to the M2. BMW was selling a 1 series in Europe in the early 2000s, and the 1 series looked like a knockoff of the e46, which debuted in 1999, if not earlier.

what does 'dated' even mean??

never understood that term being used in a comparison of looks to a new model...ALL older generations of any car are 'dated'. lol.

An E30 M3 is 'dated' but if much rather have that over any current M car...a 2002 Turbo is even more 'dated' than that and I'd have that over any BMW since!

I think it's pretty easy to comprehend.

When you post, I see:

The M2 is special enough already, stop with the mirrors - I love this car.

Plot twist: Adem1534 buys a 1M and IDEI buys an M2, boom - head explosion.
