BMW M2 Dinan Exhuast Delays (But maybe good news)

I put in my order for the full N55 dinan exhaust setup (Resonator delete pipe and muffler section) on July 31 of this year. At that time, the resonator delete showed an expected ready (not delivered) date of 8/7, and the muffler section was listed as being ready on 8/14.

Here we are, more than a month after the expected ready dates and my order still shows as "processing" on the Dinan customer portal.

However, it's not all bad news. I have been speaking with Ryan from their support team, and it appears that the delays may be related to more than the standard COVID issues.

Dinan is moving production of these components in house at their new facility and has changed their vendors for the bent piping used for these products.

I am hoping that this means we will see more accurate production with better fitment. As of now, I've been told that the parts should be arriving (not just ready) in late October, with the resonator shipping in early to mid October.

In combination with the Macht Schnell EVC, I think this is one of the best exhausts for our cars at this price point.

What is wrong with the current fitment?

Some of the muffler sections shipped in 2019 and 2020 have had incorrect bends that meant that the pipe would not properly meet up with the pipe coming from the resonator or resonator delete, depending on which you had. Those mufflers had to be returned to Dinan to be replaced.

People have also complained that the exhaust tips of the Dinan muffler section hang too low when using the stock exhaust hangers. I don't know if that is being changed at all, but most people have said that official Dinan dealers seem to get the exhaust to hang properly using the stock hangers.

I'm going to be having EAS install my exhaust, spoiler, lip, diffuser, and intake in late October or early November, so I will take some photos and do a small writeup to see how the "new" system fits.

Awesome, looking forward to it! I was considering the dinan exhaust as well so I'm curious to hear what you think

Did you ever get your parts? I see you posted on 11/18 you hadn't received them?

I had planned to order a resonator delete pipe and it says backordered, expected 12/31.

I ordered my Dinan exhaust from a forum vendor and also got a back order message for at least until 12/31

Dang that sucks to hear their lagging so badly. I want one of their exhausts as well. I like how the one pipe is pretty much a straight pipe

Thanks for reminding me to update this post! I have some news, but no parts yet!

I have been talking to Dinan's support people over the months. From August to early-November I was talking to Ryan Wreyford. The last update I had from him was on November 3rd when he informed me that some subassemblies necessary to manufacture the parts were supposed to arrive to Dinan in AL on November 13th, and that the 12/31 ship date shown online was a worst case scenario that he thought they would be ahead of.

Since that time, my tickets have no longer been answered by Ryan, but by Andrew Camacho. The last update I received was on 11/23 when I was told that he didn't have any firm updates on the order and pointed me to the 12/31 date on the website. From my perspective, Andrew seems to have less actual info or interest in finding that info for me than Ryan.

I am honestly very disappointed in the experience I have had so far. I love the look, sound, and price of the Dinan exhaust, but I don't know if I'll be buying any other parts from them in the future (besides the intake which has already arrived). Even if these problems are just down to COVID supply chain issues, I think that the communication has been really poor.

Yeah, it's kind of amazing that it can possibly take so long to (1) buy lengths of 3.5 in tubing, (2) cut the tubing to length, (3) put 2 bends in the pipe, (4) notch the ends of the pipe to allow them to mate with the rest of the exhaust, (5) fab the Dinan plate, (6) bend the Dinan plate, and (7) weld the plate to the exhaust.

That's literally all they have to do for the res delete, and I'm about to pass into the fifth month of waiting for the part to be made.

Oh Mike, I wasn't complaining, I don't mind the wait. I was just offering up another data point that it seems like the back order is universal in case Cal had ordered directly from Dinan.

I am super excited for when the exhaust comes in!! Thanks again for your help last week.

Yes, you're correct about the fact that I ordered directly through Dinan. Funny enough, the reason I did that is because I wanted my exhaust ASAP and found out that none of the online marketplaces seemed to have it in their stock and would actually just be ordering through Dinan themselves.

I guess my first tip off that quality had been slipping at Dinan was the fact that not a single one of their listed authorized Dinan dealers near me in SoCal was still working with them. Most had actually terminated the relationship 2+ years ago. If the authorized dealer list is that out of date, it's a bad sign for the rest of the company.

Well, I've got more news and it just keeps getting worse.

I just got off the phone with Dinan, and the expected date just got pushed back to late January. Apparently their supplier had their warehouse flooded by their fire suppression system last week.

I think I'm just got to have to look at either buying a system second hand or go with another manufacturer.

Supply chain issues or not, it is insane that this exhaust is going to take at least 6 months to get to me.

If anyone happens to know of a shop anywhere in the US that has these parts in stock I would love that info.

The good news is is that you can get a different brand that is in stock. I have the system and I wouldn't wait 5 months.

I was on the same boat. Been waiting on the dinan resonator delete for a while. Couldn't take the wait anymore and just went to my local exhaust shop. They did the resonator delete no problem with SS pipe for 100 bucks. I couldn't be happier. It sounds amazing with the DP and stock muffler.

Its basically the cheapest exhaust you can get. The only other close options in price are:

Fabspeed Muffler Bypass at $1,200 which is a glorified muffler delete. Any exhaust shop can turn your stock exhaust into this setup for $50-$100

AFe Power axle back at $1,800. I for some reason have a mental bias for AFE that I can't explain. I've never used any of their products and I'm not really interested in trying them.

Milltek catback at $2,150 for polished tips but shoots up in price by a crazy amount for any option other than polished tips. I've never heard of any other car that has carbon fiber or burnt titanium tips that cost $400+ for a set. I'm also not familiar with the Milltek.

So at this point its a waiting game. I'm not really interested in shelling out another $1,000 - $2,000 on top of what I paid for the Dinan

This is a good idea.

Curiously, I was looking at other res delete for the N55, I noticed the Supersprint mid pipe on ECS says "Usually Ships on Apr 30, 2021" !

Lol that's a long wait for a metal pipe. Like I said any exhaust shop will do it for you. Only difference is they will weld in the pipe.

I ended up just buying a Dinan res delete and fabspeed sport cat from another user who was selling his M2.

I like the system so far, but the cold start is just obnoxious. And having to lightly hold the throttle for about 30 seconds to cancel it is pretty annoying too.

I'm going to install the Dinan muffler when it shows up (hopefully January) and see if that combo is livable. But I have a strong suspicion it will be way too loud for a DD, so I may end up putting the stock cat back it. That would be handy for service/smog anyways for the time being.

It's the mid pipe that makes it that loud not the down pipe

I'm actually going to try and run some tests on that in potentially February. Once I have all the parts available to me, I want to do a standardized test with a decibel meter and video to compare between all the permutations of my exhaust.

So:

1. Full stock
2. Res delete but otherwise stock
3. Res delete and Dinan muffler
4. Res delete, Dinan muffler and sport cat
5. Sport cat and stock exhaust
6. Sport cat, res delete, and stock muffler

I think it would be good info to have for the community.
