If your dealer is saying you can get Individual for the M2 Competition?
You can't.

Wow, the frozen dark grey will look amazing. Frozen sunset orange? Not sure about that one.

Do all previous BMWs with frozen paint have either a CF roof or black glossy clearcoated roof? I wonder if they are doing that to avoid damage to the satin clear from birds and tree sap (roof most vulnerable), or just for looks?

I really hope this is a mistake or a one-off thing. I totally would have waited on my order if they were going to start doing individual colours :

W T F They are going to make a lot of friends if these are customer cars... NOT

This could mean a few things:

1. Special promotional models for the MotoGP (future safety cars)
2. Special promotional models for another marketing deal
3. BMW managers ordering cars in other colours. This happened before with the M2 and the 1M.

Let's hope for BMW these are not customer cars, else they a lot of customers run to the dealer asking for the same.

Interestingly, if they are special editions what kind of special editions could they be... I honestly think they are used somewhere for marketing purposes.

Interesting. I hope we can get more information here. I’ve got a week 40 build that hasn’t entered production yet and I would pick an individual color if it becomes possible.

You can definitely get individual paint at the Leipzig plant; but it will cost you $50k or more for JUST the paint. At least that's what the case was for the 4 or 5 cars 1Ms painted individual at the very end of the 1M production run.

Individual has always been available but it is obscenely expensive. You wanna pay 30k for a custom color?

Car is then not painted at Leipzig, but at Dingolfing.

Doesn't matter where they paint it, question is WILL they do it? Frozen sunset orange is a waste of money though, car can easily be wrapped in Xpel stealth.

This is part of the reason I cancelled my early allocation(s) . Frozen dark grey option...maybe. YES PLZ! I really don t care for current colors. I traded my fall spot for a 1st or 2nd quarter build

Maybe they are just preparing an option to freeze one of the existing colors.
Easy, cheap, and we all will have 4 more colors to choose from

(The grey is strange though.... maybe to recycle some leftovers of mineral grey...)

No, I don't think I've actually seen a frozen color with a black roof. There were plenty of non-frozen colors with black contrasting roof before though.

Definitely not a mistake. I'm not really sure what to make of this. I'd say it is a special edition, but BMW doesn't usually build more than one early PR car. This time there are two identical Frozen Orange cars built back to back.

As for a customer car, these are too similar.

This gets repeated over and over and it is not true. All Individual colored 1Ms and the sole N55 M2 were painted in Leipzig. Only plastic bits like bumpers were painted at another plant.

Exactly, which also protects the paint for less than going individual (for this particular model).

M2 & M2 Competition designer Hussein Al-Attar on colors (source: here):
  • Q: "What exterior color do you think shows best the lines of the new M2 Competition?"
  • A: "Well if you’re going for a pragmatic, I-can-see-every-line kind of appearance, then Hockenheim Silver is definitely the way to go without being too conservative and still having a funky color for your car. The flashiest color that screams M2 is still the Long Beach Blue. But for a menacing look that shows the character of the car, I would still go for either Black or Mineral Grey, if still offered."
An (official) M2 Competition design sketch: looks like Mineral Grey Metallic, a color not made available for the M2 Competition (source: here) ["Photos" - "Set 4"]):

The M4 GTS was available in Sapphire Black Metallic, Mineral Grey Metallic, Alpine White and Frozen Dark Grey Metallic. Though I've always been a bit reluctant about frozen paint colors, it would be nice if Frozen Dark Grey Metallic returns on a possible M2 variant:
