I'm a grown man. I can read both my speedometer & traffic signs. I'll choose how I drive. If I get caught exceeding the limit - it may have happened before - I'll accept responsibility for my actions. Bottom line: I would like my car's gauges to be accurate. Now, if you could code what the speed cameras & radar/lidar guns received as my speed I'd be all over that. |

There are some regions that actually get 100% accurate speedometers.

No. The speedo reads slights faster.
When it says 30 your doing closet to 28. When it says 55 you're closer to 50mph. |

Anyway, displaying 'close to 28' instead of 30 isn't likely going to make a difference with a trooper, given the speed at which one may be in peril of getting pulled over. Doing 85 instead of 88 in a 65 zone probably gets you the same ticket. |

Speedo from the M2 is the most accurate I ever had. It only reads a little faster actually, 2-3kph in any speed range. |

But it is mapped to true road speed and GPS verified. Much easier than coding.

That said the speedo is fairly accurate for me on my car when cross referencing with my Max 360. I’ll verify with my aim solo DL which has a more accurate GPS when I have some more time |

This all started because someone doubted my V max of 165. Hey claimed it was inaccurate and the car lied to me. My point was the M2 is as accurate as any car. I've VBOX'd my car. If you think they are wrong then so will a lot of professional race teams. |

I think the built in discrepancy is like a DOT thing for the US. This has been the way its been for years, including motorcycles. It allows you to think you getting away with something, but it does offer a slight buffer. When you have a chance go by a stationary radar that some places place on the side of the road, or permanently installed near schools, when your speed is reading 30 the display on the unit will show a speed less than that. Sure different sized tires will affect the speedometer reading, but that too is a double edged sword, it can work against you by showing a lower speed than you are actually going. I'm sure an internet search can shed more light on this. Just my 2 cents worth.

The P3 Multi-Gauge pulls data straight from the ECU: it reports the exact values logged by the ECU. Actual road speed value on the basis of the wheel/vehicle speed sensor (VSS), uncorrected (raw value), taken from the left rear wheel. My car features the 'M Driver's Package' (unrestricted V-max). Strange enough, the speed indicated on my P3 gauge and the speed indicated on the OBC are as good as identical. Furthermore, my P3 gauge stops at 266 km/h (always 'stalls': keeps showing that speed - never 267 km/h), likely because the device is limited to 165 mph, while the car continues to accelerate (speed needle, rev needle and OBC speed keep going). Didn't push it yet to find out when then car fully runs out of breath. Highest value seen so far indicated by OBC was 275 km/h (171 mph). Also, you never know whether the road is perfectly flat. Needless to say that you can achieve a higher speed on downhill straights.

i have noticed on all my cars that the real speed is less than the cars speedometer reading... without doing any research or caring all that much i just assumed it was each manufacturers way of having your warranty run out quicker

Simply drive past three or four mile markers at 60 mph (or what ever steady speed), time it, and do the math, calibrate your speedometer.
