Least amount of brake dust?

Hi All I'm looking for recommendations on low dust brake pads on a 2021 M2C?

You have 1 choice.

CarboTech 1521 pads.

Buy them direct from CarboTech with a phone call.

I currently have them, and they do dust significantly less than the stock pads, and work very well. They also eat rotors a lot less. They're not as good as the Akebono's are for the blue brakes, but Akebono will not produce pads for the 2NH.

Very happy with my 1521's thusfar. MUCH less grabby than the stock pads, clean, quiet.

There's also G-LOC GS-1, which are very similar to Carbotech 1521, but slightly cheaper. KNS Brakes has them.

When I bought my 1521's the G-Loc's weren't available.

The only thing that bothers me about them is that I visit The Dragon once a year, and they really aren't up to the task, and the 1521's are.
Do you mean the GS-1 aren’t up to the task? I’d be surprised because they are the exact same pad material as the 1521 as far as I’m aware. G-Loc’s owners are Carbotech family members and it seems like there’s some agreement they have on the pad materials. They offer the exact same materials across the line still.

Yeah, that's what I meant, but I guess I could be wrong.

I have the GS-1 on my Exige presently and the brake dust is light grey, and almost nonexistent. The 1521's dust black/orange, and a LOT more. If it's the same material as you say, then something really weird is going on.

EDIT: I just called CarboTech, they said that G-Loc are a completely different company (she mentioned competitor several times), and that the pad material of the 1521 and the GS-1 was "comparable", as in low dust, but not the same material.

EDIT 2: Contacted a friend of mine that runs in these circles and he says they are the same product made in the same factory. Wonder why the dust is different? Hmmm...

I came across similar info:

https://mazdaracers.com/topic/7120-c...-loc/?p=112018

I believe the 1521 compound has been revised at least once. Maybe your Lotus has older stock? Also consider that the bite can be a product of the application also, and the 2NH brakes have ridiculous bite. The dust color could also be influenced slightly by the rotors as well.

Yeah, agree with everything you said.

I have to tell you though, I much prefer the light-grey dust on my Lotus

It's too bad that Akebono will never make 2NH pads because their machine isn't big enough.

I hope they upgrade their tooling soon. You would have to think that at some point more than just niche cars will have these huge brakes. The stock brakes on a G20 M340i are already pretty damn big now. I emailed Raybestos because I like their EHT pads also on my Mazda 3... but they didn't even reply .

Are the CarboTechs compatible with the brake sensor system? IIRC the Hawks don't connect.

Did you find an answer to this? Also I did not know that about the Hawks. Is that for the HPS 5.0s that you speak of with the wear sensor?

I don't recall the model number but I believe it was the Hawk brand that included the front sensor but there was none for the rear. It could have been another brand but I think it was Hawk. And no, I never got an answer but I didn't pursue it either.

The CarboTech pads use OEM back-plates so they have the sensor cut-out.

Least dust pads tend not to have the proper friction in most cases. It's a trade off most of the time between dust and friction.

Porterfield R4S has been our best seller for a sport street pad. Made in the USA!
