I'm thinking about racechip or JB4 but I'm not too sure about running a piggyback.

P.S: That blinker issue is really common. I've had both my tail lights changed. They haven't malfuntioned ever since.
Isn't ProTuningFreaks in your backyard??? Why don't you just drop in and have them bench flash you?

They can only do it if I get the DME off the car and take it to them. I’m not so comfortable with the idea of taking the DME off the car to get it bench unlocked.
you aren't alone...

When you like to have double security that your stealer (dealer) does not reflash your ecu (thus blocking it) you could install the AK Motion display. You have to physically lock the device (with a PIN code) to allow for OBDII access. So if you don't lock the device, the OBDII access is not grantes and the dealer could no longer reflash. It will have other implications with the dealer, but the no reflash is guaranteed unless you lock the AK motion display.

Can't the dealer just unplug it?

It's hardwired into the canbus connectors, not a plug in the OBDII connector.
The block goes via the display's signal to/from the ecu, where the display is now in between. Quite clever if you ask me

Then they just void your warranty for modifying the ECU. Lol

I am finally going to get the DME unlocked tomorrow and I still have 12000km before my 55k service so I have some time before the next dealership visit. Hopefully the next time I visit the dealership they won't update the software. If they do, I'll think about the AK motion display.
Me neither, till I saw this topic and an additional mail message from Ak irt peepz who've been at my the dealer who had issues with OBDII access.

I do not know wether it is the solution, as I understood there will be no means of access at all meaning no error code look up etc. The dealer will for sure start complaining. But since that is what they always do, why not, I could live with that although it was not the focus for me installing AK (i did it for the OPF delete in the future)

That would be hard to argue. I too installed the AK motion display. It is an in-line wire connection but it does not flash your ecu in any way. Think, exhaust valve controller, same concept but with more features and data reading. You also hook up the M performance LED steering wheel the same way, in line wire connection to the CAN-Bus.

So will BM3 work on a 2020 M2C or is the DME still locked?

It works, but you need a bench unlock first. DME is locked, but can be unlocked (just not at the OBDII port.)

The process itself was pretty straightforward. Only the top mount intercooloer needs to be moved aside to access the DME connectors and then the DME can be patched/unlocked via computer. My only concern was that the guys working on my car did not put any covers on the fenders while working on it. The left fender has a few scratches. Nothing that a polish can’t fix.
How much did you pay for the DME bench unlock? Someone local quoted $300, i dont know how far off the prices are.

Local shop here wants 250, seems a bit steep to me for 30-45 mins of work.

Exactly, it's not just an hours labour you have to consider - it's their skills and costly equipment, local competitors and how much alternative options cost and what they think its worth to you.
