I agree.

I like this car. A lot. I also don't like the ASD feature. That is not a contradiction, nor does it constitute "whining."
Right. Let's reserve "whining" for the sun shade people. I wonder how the Porsche guys get by with ASD?

I would not call this discussion whining. There are very rational reasons for not liking the ASD. Perhaps today some drivers like the engine and exhaust noise 'in their face' loud and I can understand that, but if BMW or Porsche or whoever wants to put in fake sound augmentation to attract that subset of consumers then it makes little rational sense for BMW NOT to make this a user selected item. Hell they can CHARGE for it extra, either turning it on or turning it off, but this is not a dealer programable feature either. It took aftermarket coders to defeat this 'feature.'

My RS6 has the extra "sound enhanced exhaust" add some growl and also 5 whole horsepower, but it is not annoying at 80 on the highway. If I get on it, you can hear me from a few blocks away. Great V8 Growl.

Now go code the car so the passenger side temp syncs with the drivers side!

My car is too loud at 80 mph on the highway because it is at 3 rpm the whole time. Would coding out the asd get rid of the drone. I have the performance exhaust. Do no know if it is a problem on the standard m2? Thanks

No. Just code it off.

I have the MPE and coded off the ASD using BimmerCode. Sounds perfect now.

Much prefer it with ASD off. Car still sounds really great from the inside if you put the windows down. I like the option of a quiet ride if I roll the windows up. You don't even get a choice with ASD on.

You do need hardware to use the app though...

Luckily it's cheap

2017 ASD droning at light throttle 2-3k rpm

Figured I post here in case people want to figure this out.

So it turns out even on the 2017 M2 PE, ASD causes droning at light throttle at 2-3k rpm.

After I coded it off via the BimmerCode app, not only does the stereo sound better, the car is way more quiet in comfort "sport" exhaust and light throttle. But still livens up in sport+ and exhaust in track mode.

I'm still going to install the ASD delete harness as I noticed a light hiss on the stereo once the ASD was coded off, it may have been there even when it was on.

Will report back once the harness is installed

I had thought others had said the ASD required the HK option and extra amp?

I have no idea. It's definitely not a placebo though.

What's the difference between having the harness vs just coding it off?

Coding cost about $29 for software and $21 for dongle, takes 10 minutes. And you can code other things.

The bypass cable is a bit more expensive and more time consuming to get at the wire harness and add it.

I don't think the sound is rerouted from the exhaust and engine. Lots of complaints that the sound, the footwork, and the tach don't match.

Seems the harness completely bypasses the ASD while some people complain that coding out the ASD leaves a bit of hiss in the stereo system. Do a search for all the details.... Hope this helps.

I believe people are saying that the hiss was only on MY16 but that's just what I read a few times here.
