Does the 7200 have the "test" feature? Not sure its a worthwhile feature to have that I see on some of cteks models. Did you buy your 7002 on amazon? Thanks for the help!!! |

I don't know what you mean by test feature, but if you mean it scans the battery for charging state and overall health by looking at discharge rate then yes. But that info is just used for charging, and really isn't broad casted to the user. No I didn't buy it on amazon, I purchased it from a CTEK authorized reseller here in Canada around black friday time and got a pretty good deal. I also got the extension as well.

I have it sitting on a stool beside my car, and it's hooked up to a surge protector incase of power surges. Then I ran the cable up towards the windshield where there is a gap, it's pretty hard to explain but I could make a guide on it one day. I also have the extension going in just incase the hood does pinch down on it when I close it, this way the ctek cable itself isn't at risk and only a cheap extension is. There is enough space between the hood and the plastic trim that the cable can move freely, but this is just a precaution incase the cable shifts when I close the hood. Note the charger is IP65 certified so it is good to be outside of the car, just don't get it submerged or something.

Trickle Charger
Hey guys,
So 5 weeks ago I snapped my achilles tendon playing basketball and now can't drive my beloved M2 until June at the earliest. Ever since surgery it's been crazy trying to adapt to life as a cripple with two young kids and the wife and I both work full time... in the process I've completely forgotten about the fact my M2's battery is probably running dead as I write this. Can anyone recommend a good trickle charger I can get off Amazon that won't break the bank? There are lots available but this place is my source of truth. Thank you in advance! |

I've been using a CTEK MUS-4.3 battery tender (purchased from Amazon) over the past three winters which appeared to be the same one BMW marketed under their own name at that time. I also bought the CTEK Comfort Connect Extension Cable so the wiring could be fished down next to the manifold opening rather than closing the hood on the wiring.

I personally use the ctek MUS7002 which is fairly affordable for the best smart trickle charger in the industry. The ctek MUS 4.3 like the poster above me said is quite good too. CTEK also has a bunch of neat accessories like bumper cases, and extenders which is nice. You also have the choice between eyelets which fit under the engine bay terminals, or alligator clamps.

As noted, CTEK is the brand you want. Lots of debate on if you should run in regular mode or snowflake mode, but ctek says regular is just fine for the M2 battery. Oh and do remember, for the M3/M4, it is a lithium charger (completely different) - in case you upgrade and/or have a friend with one

Thanks for the feedback guys. Just picked up a CTEK MXS 5.0 which arrives in a few days. First time buying from ebay in quite a while.. Amazon's shipping times are now very, very long due to COVID.

While I've seen those shipping times listed, I'm not seeing them in real life. Something I ordered on Sunday for a Friday delivery was at my house on Monday (about 24 hours after ordering)

I'm sure the CTEK chargers are fine, but just to close the loop on this, BMW's latest 'Advanced Charger' linked to in the second post has the part number 82-11-0-049-788, and the photo is wrong on the BMW website. It actually looks like this:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...35-space-~oeb/ And is nearly identical to the Deltran Battery Tender model here: https://www.batterytender.com/Batter...-12V-4A-Select. The only difference is that the Deltran model has a 6v / 12v option in addition to the Lithium / AGM option.

I actually emailed CTEK, asking them about the recommended charger for the M2C. Here's their response:
Hello, We recommend the BMW branded charger which is manufactured by CTEK. For more information on this product please contact your local BMW dealership. As for a CTEK branded charger, if your battery is lead-acid or AGM you have many options. Our MXS 5.0 is designed for charging and maintaining lead-acid and AGM batteries up to 160Ah. If your battery meets this criteria our MXS 5.0 will also work great. https://smartercharger.com/collectio...s/ctek-mxs-5-0 |

One question re: the CTEK chargers, since my car is sort of trapped between transit and delivery.
Can you install a permanent attach point to the engine charge points? i.e. Do they make a cable that you can permanently connect to the car and just plug the charger in as needed? Did that make sense? R. |

I've got 7 trickle chargers currently in use. 6 of them are the $20 black and decker BM3B units from amazon. They work fine. Not much more to say than that. If I do drop one on the ground or whatever, who cares it cost $20.

I think snow flake mode was only available on the mus7002, anything lower always had just an agm mode. This could be because of the ips rating difference I'm not really sure.

I think my 4.3s have the snowflake. Lots of arguments about using it.

You guys are simultaneously the best and the worst... I've gone and placed an order for the Battery Tender 4A model now, and I'm not sure it's something I need at all!
$50 at Amazon / Costco was too good to resist, but $50 is still $50...
