Okay, but how many would buy a Supra over an M2 Competition?

If a manual were available in both, I would probably choose the Supra. Without a manual, it's a no-brainer for me. I still want to row my own gears and the M2 Competition has usuable rear seats.

What a shame.

Edit- I really want to love this car. We'll see how it drives.

But I imagine Toyota dealers are going to play games.

How are both the Z4 and Zupra 3,400 pounds?!
That article fails to realize why there was the initial 4.4sec 0-60 for the Z4.

The different M40i 0-60 times(4.4 vs 3.9) is due to the two versions. Euro Z4 has 335hp 4.4sec, US version has 382hp 3.9sec. Euro version is detuned due to regulations and the gas particulate filters.

It's more like Bmw raided Toyota for some badges and a body kit lol. Hard pass for me as there are better cars at that price range

I'm not doubting your years of cheerleading this car. I'm doubting Toyota actually doing anything other than selling this exact car until they don't anymore.

Promises of a convertible GT86 and a faster GT86 started before the car was even on sale. Have you seen either of those (in production)?

$1 says the US will never get a manual Zupra.

"estimated" time of 4.1 to 60.
335 hp is nothing really special in this day and age and only 20hp more then the Supra king of the 90's. The is 4.1 to 60 estimate isn't special either.

Disturbing that it leaves a good chunk of hp on the table compared to the Z4 with the same I6 underhood. The 4 cyl version coming in about 3100lb so the I6 will no doubt weigh more with heavier engine and likely have heavier brakes and driveline so it's no bantam weight. I'll wait and see what the test results are and see how it does on the track but I'm not impressed from what I've read so far.

If a manual comes, my guess it will be on a 2.0L 4 banger. But not on the i6.

lol, again where did I ever said this car was the second coming of JC?

Actually a convertible 86 was planned. They even made a concept, but ToyotaUSA could not find any other markets that wanted a drop top as well. Has Toyota even said anything about a faster 86? Tada san has said from day one that there will not be a turbo 86. My advice to you would be to stop reading every tabloid that is looking to make a quick buck.

Sure, I'm game.

Still glad I got a 718 instead.

Toyota will sell to the fanboys, but maybe I'm just not getting it at that price point. Also did they detune the m40i motor? Why only 335hp? I can also get a 1LT/2LT Stingray or a 1LT Grand Sport for that kind of money. I'd rather have the Z4 and go full BMW vs BMW engine and toyota shell. Just my thoughts out loud.

I really like the styling of the exterior. However, it's simply priced too high. For 5K less you can get into a M240i, which has the exact same motor. If you are looking at the launch edition version another 4K gets you into a M2C.

Honestly it's a shame. I like the car but I think it's priced in a place where it can't succeed.

^Then just get the regular car. The Launch Edition just has different colors, carbon accents, Morizo's Signature on the dash on the passenger side. There is no performance difference.

It's 20k less than the z4 with the i6. Seems like a pretty great buy at 50k when you consider the configuration and what appears to be a very conservative hp number. Wouldn't be shocked if these dyno at close to 330. The new Z4 is butt ugly, to my eyes.

Well I don't have a dog in this fight, I'm not getting any version of the Supra/z4. But it still feels to me that it's too expensive. I think it should be about 5K less across the lineup. If I didn't have the M2 and would probably consider this car, but outside of styling it seems like a less usable M240i? Time will tell, my opinion might change.

I think a lot will depend on the next 2er. Oddly the G20 is lighter than the Z4 now, so if the next M240i is lighter and has a mechanical LSD, then yes, there's little appeal to the Supra. But compared to the current, heavier, 1 wheel drive M240i, there are some advantages for the Supra/Z4 provided you can live with two seats.

I agree it looks a little better than the Z4. Maybe they feel their competition is more 370z than Corvette, Cayman or M2C.
