Yes, he didn't get rid of the 1M he already owned for an M2, but he did say that he hopes that he'll have both of them one day

Those front parking sensors. I am so jealous of you guys who are going to get front parking sensors. You can have the S engine with special horn that plays either "99 Luftballons" or a Klaus Meine guitar solo every time the ignition button is pushed (this can be customized on the M buttons, of course), and the carbon fiber condom dispenser, and the ball joints which will probably make this car feel as sweet as a '70 Cadillac Fleetwood, but man I'm going to wish we had those parking sensors. My wife, who is also a speed demon and is sure to get our insurance rates absolutely destroyed in this car, is only 4'11" and about 95lbs. She's an oompa loompa with a lead foot. She can barely see over the steering wheel and when she does her eyesight isn't what it used to be anyway, and I just know she's going to whack something in our garage. She knows it, I know it, the garage knows it. But we're not cancelling our order...instead we'll take whatever money we're saving by buying this model and I'll buy a bunch of cheap quilts and line the garage until it looks like the inside of an insane asylum. I've got bigger problems than weight distribution, and my problem has already bought herself a pair of BMW leather driving gloves.

I beg to differ. With each iteration up to the E9X, the M3 has gotten heavier and has had more power added. The E36 is a fair bit heavier than the E30. The F8X is the first that actually goes down in weight. The F8X is also the first ///M variant that weighs less than the top AG model it is based upon.
You are 100 percent correct. But by then the car has gotten so bloated that In my mind the F8X M3 is really a 5er so...

Actually I'm not that bored but almost...

A hp to eight review by generation might be interesting....

True that Porsche charged a premium for the Cayman GT4 compared to the Cayman GTS, but for sure there must have been GTS customers who were definitely not amused when Porsche announced the GT4 even less than a year after the GTS announcement:
  • Porsche press release of March 19, 2014: introduction of the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS models;
  • Porsche press release of February 3, 2015: introduction of the Cayman GT4 model.
Main difference: M2 owners knew that BMW would release variants in the future. Cayman GTS owners didn't expect a Cayman GT4, and certainly not that quick.
I expected variants that would be sold in limited quantities. Not the base model being replaced by an M4 with a 2 series interior and body for just the regular model year price bump.

The upcoming is not significantly much faster or prettier but actually heavier and may come out balanced upset and sounding like a rattled cannister. Where is the carbon roof top or adjustable dampers? Higher torque but from a higher rev range? I still think the new one coming up is the right direction and we will all drool over it like how we do when something new comes out. But no way it’s gonna mess up the current cars value. I say our current M2 will be just fine in the used car market.

About the M2 Competition price: let's hold our horses and first wait for the official BMW reveal, informing what you (don't) get for the base price + the price list for the options.

And more generally to all those out there who got an M2: you enjoyed your car before - I see no reason to refrain from enjoying it over and over again (it's a 'joy facilitator') till someday in the future when you feel that it's about time for something else. All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Life is like riding a bicycle: to keep your balance you must keep moving.

When I first drove the M2 I was surprised by how heavy it felt. The reviews often mentioned it being "lighter" but I think they just meant relative to the M4.

Are the front parking sensors an option or part of a package for the M2c? i.e executive package?

Interesting to compare dimensions:

2003 M5...188 x 71 x 57 inches

2016 M3...185 x 74 x 56 inches

1996 M3...174 x 67 x 55 inches

2003 M3... 177 x 70 x 54 inches

2016 M2...176 x 73 x 56 inches

I loved the size of my e36 and e46 M3s, so it's no surprise that I like the dimensions and feel of the M2. And I'm sure I'd love the new M2 Comp, but for the time being I will probably find a good used M2 and put a few bucks into Fabspeed cat, Dinan tune/intake, and suspension upgrades. Maybe paint it in San Marino Blue too.

But I am certain BMW will sell every single 2019 M2 Competition they build

Shortly after my purchase BMW replaced it with the 328i LCI, which had the 2.8l vs 2.5l engine, painted side skirts and some other upgrades. Granted this wasn't as drastic a change as a whole new engine, but it was still disappointing to me, as I would have much rather had a 328i. And adding insult to injury, shortly after that the US M3 was released, which they had said they weren't going to bring to the US. Worst of all, it cost only about $4k more than my 325i, at which point I traded my 325i in, only 1.5 years after buying it.

Over the course of the years I realized that this was typically behavior for BMW and other manufacturers, it's called progress. The latest and greatest only lasts so long. Wanting to have it, is also something one comes to realize in life, is a bottomless pit. Unless you have money to burn, you will never have it for long. Not that you strike me as such a person, but to a certain extend we all do enjoy having the latest and greatest.

I don't think anyone that is remotely familiar with modern BMW's can argue that they haven't done this before. The S54 replacing the S52 in the Z4 was IMHO a greater step up than the N55 to S55. At least in terms of hp! It went from 240 to 333hp. Now that had to disappoint a lot of customers who paid almost the same price for the S52 in their Z4.

So, there is precedence for this and it should really not come as a surprise to BMW owners, unless you were like me back in '95, and hadn't paid a whole lot of attention to what BMW does in mid cycle refreshes. Luckily for me, I am kind of over needing the latest and greatest. Maybe it is by necessity (family, kids, dogs, house etc) or it is a bit of maturity, but I have learned to be patient and enjoy it while it lasts. That being said, I am on a waiting list for this upcoming M2, but I have no illusions that it will be king of the hill for long. The next M2 will be right around the corner and chances are it will be better again. Well, first all the current M2 owners will spend a good while on the forums arguing that it isn't so, but in the end most will accept that it is.
Yup, I’ve been there too. Bought a 2006 e90 330i at launch. BMW dropped in the N54 the next model year in 2007 which had 50+ more HP and only charged the typical new MY increase. I wasn’t going to get duped again, so I waited to buy a MY 2017 M2.

I guess bmw felt they had to upgrade the M2 so it won't be so far behind on power, when the G80 M3 is here.
