M2C S55 Catch Can Install

No Catch Can installation instructions so I developed one myself.
Bought Turner Motorsport w/ drain kit. https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...f8x-m3-m4/.The only difference I discovered during my install was the side and length of the hoses. I understood this kit was designed for the S55 M3/4 which probably has more engine bay room than the M2C. What I noticed during the install, which wasn't part of the installation instruction was the hoses would need to be modified to fit properly. What I did was a dry test fit and found the lower return hose was approx. 2 3/4 too long. I trimmed it and checked the upper feed hose and found it was approx. 1/2 too long so I trimmed it too. The result was an installation with no stress visible on either hose. I also drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the engine encapsulation panel as it’s called. I wanted a straight shot down for the catch can for drainage. All in all this was a proof of concept for the S55 M2C.

Thanks for this. Was looking at purchasing the Turner catch can. Initial thoughts on their product?

I buy 95% of my BMW parts and products from either ECS or Turner Motorsport which is now partnered with ECS... All purpose built parts from the vendor done in house are well thought out parts. With the issues related to Carbon Valve buildup you can't go wrong with a Catch Can. I've started right out of the gate with one at 485 miles on this M2. My BMW X3 N55 engine had 78K before I took it in for a walnut blast. After that, I installed a catch can, 262.00 vs 1585.00 from the dealer to clean the valves. UGH... to me it was an still is a no brainer... go for it... but install the drain hose for sure.

Good luck...

Nice.... even better. I just pulled it up on the Turner website. They have a very detailed install guide like you said.

I guess OP just missed it?

Another good option for a catch can for the S55. Mishimoto.

https://www.mishimoto.com/bmw-f8x-m3...2015-2020.html

Looks like Mishimoto is the better brand to get.

Your right … Its was a toss up but I do like the hoses from Mishimoto vs Turner Motorsport. I may try to buy just the hoses, I didn't see anything about a drain on their kit. The removal of the catch can is not a viable option as you would basically have to disassemble the area just to get it back out. Maybe every 5K I'll take it out to properly clean it maybe 15K … it will depend what I find as residue in the first 5K.

Can you remove the can, to drain/clean, without removing the carbon fiber brace? It seems like the BMS one is able to be removed without removing the brace...

"partnered"? You mean acquired?

I had a chance to read your posts... its a shame as to what happened... doesn't seem fair at best. I on the other hand may have dodged the tragedy. I have had nothing but great experiences with everyone from sales to tech to returns. My only problem was parts LCAB which were made in China, failed after 3 months but got a refund to purchase anything else. The guys at Turner were great in assisting me with a LSD for my E-46 ZHP and shipped it to the performance shop with no issues. I'm sorry for your experience, but going to the dealership for work I can do myself was out of the question. They (ECS and Turner) became my one-stop shop since 2005. I never was in a rush for parts and ordered what I needed early enough to ensure I wasn't put out. My requirements have dropped now that I have a new car M2C.but still drive my daily ZHP with 277K on it supported on the back mostly by ECS and Turner. I can't see as a customer what happens behind closed doors, but its good knowing they (staff) never let it show when talking to me.

I installed the Mishimoto Oil Catch Can a few days ago. For reference, it’s the only F8X model available, although it appears the company has not updated the application listing to identify the M2C as a vehicle that can use this can.

Here are two pictures of the installation:

Recommendations: Order the drain kit so you can drain the can when you change the engine oil, or every 3K miles. After 5k, the can may fill, so this is why I say 3K miles is a good time to drain the catch can oil. Also, when you order the drain kit, I would call the sales reps because I was sent the wrong nipple that screws into the can. The sales rep sent me the correct nipple for free.

A lot of people go off what they have heard in the past or read from others and never placed one order. In the last 2-3 years they have made tons of changes to improve on issues they had in the past. I have purchased many orders through Turner and ECS and have never had an issue. Parts for all four of my cars and sometimes just even wash and maintenance items when they have sales going. Not once I have had an issue so I continue to support them. Have been able to try some of their newer parts for M2C also and its been a great experience each and every time.

I have a Mishimoto OCC sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. I've been wondering if worthwhile. Can you share some feedback now that you have had yours on for a while? Any fluid found in the can? Drain/Mileage interval?

Update… sorry for the delay. My experience with the catch can has been a single oil change once a year from the local BMW shop. When the car was returned I checked the catch can and the dealer didn’t empty it so when I did I got about 3 inches of clear liquid water mostly with a hint of oil in it, smells like oil even though it was a very lite gold color, over the last 3 oil changes the same amount of moisture was present. I can only imagine where this all would be in my engine/valve cover. By far the best decision I felt for my S55 engine hands down.

I don’t recall why I stopped trying to install the Turner OCC on my CS last summer, I think it had something to do with the fitment around the stock air box. This thread reminded me I have one new in the box and now that I have the Turner intake installed I might give it another go.
