It does seem like many people want M4-like performance at 2-series prices. What sense does that make from BMW's perspective?

I still think the M2 will outperform the 1M. The 2-series is just a better chassis to start with than the 1-series, other than with respect to weight.

So the interior rumor would explain the limited color palette for the exterior.

This sounds like it's going to look great in any color combo really.

I'm excited to hear/see more

Yeah that would be pretty great.

What do you think is gonna happen about an M2 LCI? The awesome lights on the 340i make me nervous, because the tail lights on the 2 would look fantastic with an update like that, and be even a greater improvement to the 2 compared to the improved looks of the 3 series with them.

I am SO PUMPED. The fact that they're limiting options makes it feel even more special. BMW is pretty much telling us that they are building a direct 1M successor. A special car.

I agree - from the leaked details, it sounds like not only will colors be limited, but also the options list. I think this makes a ca. $50k base price all the more reasonable.

Then I think the M2 CSL is for you my friend!

I've never owned an M car. I'm seeking an entry level into the brand. And since they're doing the M2 this way, I won't be buying Mustang GT and waiting for a next gen M. I think part of the reason BMW is building the M2 the way that they are is so that they can reel in people like me. And man I've taken the bait, hook line and sinker.

That makes perfect sense. My situation is a little different since this will be my fifth M car and I'm coming straight off a 3 year romance with a lovely 1M.

What the M2 appears to be at this point, at least to me, is a reincarnation of the 1M which isn't a bad thing at all, but since I've already been there and done that I was hoping for a more tangible step forward (bespoke engine, CF roof, etc., etc.)

That being said, like I keep repeating ad nauseam, it's all going to boil down to the feel of the wheel. If it puts a smile on my face then I'll put it in my garage

As much as I want cloth/alcantara, my guess is the m3/m4 seats in black leather with blue contrast stitching. They already exist, BMW already makes them with deviated stitching and they were designed to be lightweight which suits the M2 well.

Just because a car feels faster though, doesn't mean it is all that much faster. And this does matter to some folks. Especially when you consider that... you are ultimately paying 10k+ in addition... To "feel" much better.. but barely perform better.

I think it is clear that the M's have the superior hardware. And I don't doubt that they feel superior to drive.

But, both the specifications as well as the performance numbers are really quite close. And the 235i is likely not going to be very far behind an M2 as far as posted times.. (I suspect). If the 1M/135i is used to gauge the likely performance differences between the 235i/m2.

Given the history of the 1M/135i, I think the difference between the 235i/M2 is reasonable. HOWEVER... I think that the M2 should be noticeably better than the 1M.. And it doesn't (for now) appear to be the case. They've had several years to evolve the product... I expected more of a gap.

Like it or not, some people do care about the "actual" performance more than others.. Rather than just the perceived "performance feel" or driving dynamics.

To some, it is just not going to be worth the premium when it barely out performs the much cheaper option... Regardless of how much better it may feel to drive it.

I don't think it is as black & white as some are making it out to be. People are clearly gauging by different standards/preferences... so the opinions are going to vary.

It is indeed a good amount of power, but the fact is.. some people want more.

Reminds me of the FT86's... People went bananas about the lack of power. And many people bought them because of the superior driving dynamics.. and ended up dumping them months later because the dynamics just didn't compensate for the lack of power. Many of these folks jumping ship were the same folks ranting on about "You just don't get it.." in defense of the lack of power complaints.

Fortunately the M2 will have a lot more power than the twins did. (Albeit in a heavier/bigger car). I think with the M2's balance... it could have been a bigger home run if they trimmed some more weight.

I don't think one person feeling it lacks power, or another feeling it's adequate... is really grounds for some of the hostility around here for people having individual opinions.

Power isn't everything... I'm having a lot more fun in a 200 hp car right now than I ever did in my previous 400+ hp vehicles. Because.... weight / dimensions / driving experience / perceived performance etc...

My car feels fast... It is not fast.

Driving a slow car fast, is not the same as driving a fast car... fast... (but of course is more enjoyable than driving a fast car slow.)

Fact is, people weight the importance of handling/power/ and many other factors differently than others. Opinions just will never match up 100% Which doesn't make any of them more or less "right" than the next opinion. Who cares?

Anyway... People can debate to the end of the world how much more enjoyable it is to drive an M2.. But none of us here have driven it yet. Sooo we'll have to wait and see... And then decide whether or not it's worth the premium.
Fuck dude. A+ times a billion. Right on. I couldn't have written this better. You get it. Opinions, dreams, and wishes vary. I honestly hate how that is just not allowed around here sometimes.

I'm not too nervous about the taillights. Those can usually be retrofitted so it's not a giant deal to me. And I've more or less decided that I can live with Xenons.

Guarantee you it'll be leather only, just like the 1M. Shame because I really wanted cloth.

Same here. There's a reason I've avoided black leather all these years, but it looks like I won't have a choice this time around. The M2 will get the standard 18% tinted windows like all my other cars. At least that'll help a little bit.

Sane here. I would prefer cloth Alcantara or leather cloth, leather Alcantara. 1M leather seats were one thing I always wished would've been cloth or Alcantara .
