4gb of ram minimum, 2.2 ghz dual core processor minimum (minimum recommended was the core i5), and atleast 250gb of free hdd space. This is what ista recommends, and since ista is alot heavier than esys you should be good to go. It also allows you to run ista as well

I got some used $150 or so Lenovo Thinkpad T440 from ebay a couple years ago for coding. Works fine for me. Formatted and installed a fresh copy of Windows on it, still use it for many other tasks on the side.

I wouldn't cheap out if I were you, if your laptop dies it could corrupt data on your car's computers and cause alot of damage.

This laptop at Costco has some sweet components. Price is not bad either. It has Ethernet port also for coding, etc. Lots of new laptops do not have ethernet ports these days.

I too am looking for a second hand used laptop.

Looks nice, I have been a Mac fan for a while so I couldn't steer towards that.

If you have a MacBook pro you can run bootcamp like I do.

I tried running windows parallel but ran into the issue of not having enough ram, probably because my Mac is from 2011.

That's why bootcamp is better, it creates a physical partition on your hard drive and you boot directly to windows as if it were a Windows laptop. It doesn't simulate windows on your Mac desktop which uses too much ram.

My MacBook pro 2011 15" that I bought just for coding, had 4 gb of ram and it ran windows just fine, I recently upgraded it to 8gb of ram.
