The day arrived
Folks - I've lingered on the M2 boards for a year or two now drooling over this car. This car speaks to me. Not since the e46 M3 or the M Coupe have I loced the looks of a a car so much. I've been driving BMWs now for 19 years, but never had a "me" car so this was the one for me as my kids start moving out of the house for college. While my initial time frame was next summer, Christmas came a bit early as I found out that our third car was on its last leg. I started casually shopping around since it is year-end, and came upon a great deal which i decided not to pass up on. Here she is, Hockenheim, Exec, DCT (agonized over moonroof, but I went for the clean look of the roof):

Welcome and congratulations! It was the same for me - outside the 1M, this was the first BMW that I actually wanted in some time...Well, since 2007, to be precise (excluding the 1M).

Congratulations! That is my exact setup and I love it. My old man wants to buy one, too. It is an awesome car for the money. This car was also the first bimmer I've wanted since the 1M.

Thank you guys!! I love this car and while i still have the new car jitters (babying it and all), I know I will love this car more every day. What pure joy. I'm still getting used to the DCT and the various driving modes, but I'd rather be driving than RTFM!! Maybe my concierge appointment will teach me a few things. I haven't even set up the user profiles or even turned on the radio...LOL!

I'm in love
So been driving around all morning...55 degrees and sunny. Started to play around with the settings (drive settings), and had some fun with M1 and M2. I used the default M2 setting and wow, what a beast.
I'm keeping her below 4k RPM and 90 mph for now, and so I cant imagine how she performs once broken in. 160 miles and 1040 more to go. Its already getting more throaty. So far the M2 is everything I wanted. Only concern is that its a bit weak on 1st and 2nd gears, but maybe I'm just too afraid to let it it rev past 4.5k (I know the break-in says 5500, but still) to see what it can do. There is plenty of time Still haven't turned on the radio...hope to do it before warranty expires |

It might also be traction control. Try with mdm mode which allows some wheel slip. You should be able to get your break in service done a bit early at 900 to 1000 miles. |

Half way to break-in. The M2C now has 600 miles on her in 3 weeks, thanks to global warming it was 70 degrees here today and I was out all day. I am thrilled with this car. Went on a nice spirited drive with my buddy who was driving his McLaren 570s (wow, that car sounds nice), and what a drive the M2C had. Really opened her up as much as I could within the break-in rules. Cant wait to shift her past the 5k mark. There is just so much juice left at 5k. Here are some observations:
Handling - Probably the best thing about this car. With the PSS, this thing is sticky. No body roll or lean, the M2C is on rails Power - Not too happy in 1st and 2nd and below 3k rpm. i feel like a Camry could beat me off the line. After 3-4k rpm, the power really comes on DCT - Incredible. Fast shifts, in manual and in D mode. I always find myself driving in manual mode Exhaust sound - Sounds great when really pushing this car, and when slowing down rapidly. On acceleration, I'm not sure which sound is radioed in versus real. I had the windows down today so got a better sense. I love the sound when doing shifts at 5k rpm. Looks - So understated. Looks unassuming from far, but look at it closely and it looks so mean and aggressive. Wont draw much attention on the road, and then randomly I'll get a thumbs up or a honk. I guess those who know, know. Overall - The M2C is the perfect package. Its got the right features and technology, nothing more and nothing less. We've got all the essentials, and some luxuries, and at the right price point. The interior, while basic, is exactly what you want in a sports car. For the money and even more money, I see no reason why the M2C isn't the best sports car on the road!! (I know, I'm biased) Happy motoring! |

Are you driving it in eco mode? I generally do, and I sometimes get caught 'flat footed' in the lower RPMs. The car can feel a bit sluggish down there in eco mode. Switching to sport or sport + really brings the car alive though, and there's just way way less turbo lag.
Not that you should be driving around in Sport + before break in, but it does make a big difference. |
