Buying Advice

Hello everyone,

I’m looking at getting a M2/M2C in the next few months and would appreciate if some owners could weigh in.

I currently live in Southwestern Ontario and am planning to daily the car (including during the winter). Went to a dealership recently and the salesperson said that wasn’t really a viable strategy and really discouraged me from trying to daily the car during the winter. I was a little confused since I’ve seen a few posts on this forum with people driving them during the winter. Am I looking at outliers or is it really not possible to drive the M2 in a Canadian winter (urban mostly with some 401 driving).

My other questions are the following:

1. How are lease rates within Canada now for the M2C? I saw the regular M2 leasing for 900-1100. Is the M2C similarly priced?
2. How is the bootspace? Could I fit 2 large suitcases in the boot without putting seats down? Or 1 large and other small suitcases?
3. Would really appreciate people weighing in on daily driving the M2 including winter and potential other daily driver niggles. I’m in my 20’s so a stiffer ride isn’t a huge concern.
4. How much did the “winter package” cost for the M2? The BMW sales rep said it’s $5000 for winter tires/wheels. I was planning on sizing down for the winter and getting Bridgestone Blizzaks / Michelin X-Ice. Overall $5000 seemed a little steep to me but correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks in advance!

1. M2C was about 10k more in Canada and that gap seems to be sticking with the used ones too. For me it wasn't worth it and I prefer to look and sound of the M2.

2. Bootspace is big but not enough for 2 big suitcases. It would take 1 large and 2 small or two medium.

3. It's fine in winter, you will be limited by ride height before running into troubles with traction. Daily driving is just fine, that's what the car is good at. Sure, the 240ix would be more comfortable and AWD but it's not much cheaper and you don't get the glorious wide fenders.

4. That depends on the brakes. Stock M2 like mine can go down to 18" wheels so my package was $2200 including taxes and everything (nice light 18x9 wheels and Blizzak WS80 tires). 5000 is crazy expensive. Even if you go all fancy and staggered I can't imagine spending more than 3k.

BMW winter packages are expensive using OE wheels. I don't see the prices on bmw.ca, but here are US packages:

https://www.shopbmwusa.com/accessori...ire-assemblies

19" 641M winter package $3188 (USD). Using non-BMW wheels at TireRack would probably be closer to $2K.

I didn't think M2C could downside to 18", is the same true for Canadian market cars?

I bought 18" winter package from TireRack for $1500 last month.

Winter driving, especially mostly on the 401, will be fine. Just get yourself a set of winter tires and leave traction control on. The traction control in this car is quite good.

3rd winter in m2 and daily all those yrs no problem. I fit golf clubs bag and pull cart all in . Seats will fold down. Even all 4 19 inch wheels and tires will fit at once when taking back home after swapping the 18 winters. This car has been a great DD. 401 in winter np at all!

My 3rd winter as well daily driving. Bought knock off rims (same look as bmw rims but are 8.5 inch wide and square set) with square blizzaks in 255/35r19. I add a couple sand bags in trunk and Car is great in winter, traction control keeps things civil. And one tap of traction button allows enough spinning of tires to clean the snow out if needed.

The lease rates are very good now actually. Residuals are high. approx 1100$ 39 months, 24k per year is doable. 19inch wheels are the minimum to clear the brakes. Buy the winter tire/wheel set in the US...3200 USD or go on tirerack.com

I will also daily the car and looking to lease in February. With a good set of winter tires the only issue is ground clearance. Like others have said, just skip the 3-4 days of winter storms and you will be fine.

Sounds tempting but I'm looking for DCT since I won't be the only driver of the car unfortunately. 2018 M2's look just right.

Okay that sounds pretty reasonable. Is that $1100 with everything in (including lease end protection, etc)?

Everyone's replies on this thread have been reassuring.

There are some amazing deals to be had on any leftover 2019 M4CS for a similar lease price as a M2C.

Really? That doesn’t make sense to me. Most M4 Comp’s that I saw were leasing for 1400-1500. Can’t imagine a CS leasing at 1000-1100.

There's an $8k-$9k incentive from BMW Canada right now (only on the CS) plus aggressive discount of similar amount or more will get you to the $1100-1200 range.

Keep in mind this is on the leftover 2019s not on the 2020s. The M4 comps you're seeing were probably leased at 5.9% with normal discount which puts them in the $1400+ range.

Even at 1.9% lease and 20k off, and decent residual, it will be difficult to get it under $1250/mth without downpayment.

Nways that's just the math off the top of my head but I could be wrong. However anything under $1300/mth with lease protection is a great deal for the CS though not for me cuz I can't do without an armrest lol.

There have been some crazy deals on 2019 M4s for sure. BMW quebec has a 2018 M3CS (new I think) for 25% off. The CS are just way over priced, plus the M2C has taken away lots of sales as well. Stil, 1100 is hard to belive for an '19 M4CS.... but if you can find it, it's one heck of a deal!

All the ones I saw with 20% off were for finance only.

Quebec has some crazy offers. I'm most likely moving to the US soon and the deals there are just insane.

I have driven my M2 as a daily for almost 2 years now. It's overall a great car, but I find it struggles in winter time - mostly due to the fact that I live on a hill and from a standing start the car cannot make it to the top after a heavy snowfall.

I purchased the 513m wheels with OE Michelin alpin pa4 tires lightly used from a forum member for $2k - you'd definitely be better off with Blizzaks or X-ice but it shouldn't be too hard to find some wheels and tires under $2500.

I plan on driving mine when it arrives ...using the stock 473m wheels with Nokian winter and ice ...I don’t think the performance winters will cut it .

I've ran Blizzacks on my previous 2 M3s and on Conti winters.

These are better in the deep snow and dry weather compared to the Blizzacks. The Nokians will fare better in the deeper stuff though dry will be a different story. I think car and driver did a test on all these tires recently.
