I love my M2 but I can't ignore that the basic car is already dated so the M2CS which won't be released for some time yet making it more dated on arrival just seems like poor value (I suppose this will depend ultimately on pricing which has yet to be determined) to me when the next gen M3/M4 is around the corner and should outperform it but that's my opinion of course.
I think there are a few reasons an M2CS is a compelling car to consider:

MT guaranteed (been some wavering on that front for the next gen M3/4, not sure about next gen M2)
Last M DCT (no matter how they spin it, I wouldn't want a ZF slushbox, which is what everyone gets going forward)
Culmination of BMW's efforts and combined knowledge for S55 and F series chassis.
M3/4 ZCP tune (I have an F80 ZCP, the engine is a monster)
CF roof and other CF parts from the factory (not installed by Bud or Mac from your local dealer)
763Ms as standard

DmBoone is right. The last M DCT on the M2 CS is a big deal as the ZF slushbox is not the same.

Often, a candle will get a burst of radiant light just before it flickers out; the phenomenon of a waning candle shedding its light around. We could consider that the M2 CS is born in that short-lived moment (2020), featuring some specs that we won't see return on future models. I trust that this 'final package' will be something special, worth lusting for in the near and distant future. Looking forward to 'the last goodbye'.

Best of both worlds. Keep your existing M2 and get the GT4.

Trade the M2 for the M2CS, AND get the GT4. Win/win!

More like trade 1M and M2 for M2CS and GT4. I know it's blasphemy but the M2PE is more fun to drive then the 1M!

GT4 is a cool car, esp if you're into corners or smaller tracks/streets. Essentially a slower car compared to the CS in the straight line but it'll have a unique feel/characteristics with the engine set up in the back in regards to handling. But as fun as cornering would be in that car, what about the CS or even an M4 GTS with some upgraded turbos + E85? ...

So basically M2 CS should be faster than GT4 in a straight line? Next GT3 will be even faster but that is a whole other class car.

Artemis makes a good point that the M2 CS could be a collectible car with only 9 months of production in addition to the probability that the next generation M2 is bigger and weighs more than the F87 M2's. Last DCT model as well.

And last M2 to be produced in Germany.

Owned both, completely disagree....strongly.
I have seen you post this over the years and you should sell the 1M, IMO.
If you do not adore the things that make the 1M absolutely amazing, get rid of it and try something else. You get something you adore and the next owner gets a 1M.

Actually I'll like try and keep 1M, get the GT4 and then get my M2CS. Sell a X5d, M2PE and a 06 Z4MC.

I was thinking the same Kepler. If I can't get a GT4 allocation, then I can get a M2 CS in 2020. Pay off the car in a year or so and then in 2021 or 2022 try to get a GT3 allocation of the new 992 generation.

I saw a GT3 at a traffic light a month ago and can't get the sound or power of that car out of my mind when the guy took off. Straight line speed is my thing as someone said M2 CS should be faster than GT4. GT3 is faster than both of course.
