Changing brake pads for M2 Comp (2NH)

Can someone point to a DIY for changing out brake pads on this BBK?

Is it the same as the OG M2? (Ridiculously easy) If so, no guide needed.

You can find it in the TIS. The procedure is a bit different because you have to loosen the caliper.

Hi,

Do I need only to lose them or completely take them off? And what is the torque value to be used when re-tighting them: 110Nm?

As you can see you have to unscrew the 2 caliper screw, then move away it as the brake hose let it so you are able to remove the pads toward the center.
Yes the torque is 110 Nm.

The TIS that provides the torque specs for the two caliper screws state "Renew screws". Does "renew" mean replace them?

Thanks for the replies. Another question... I've done some searching here and can't find definitive answer on wheter to apply brake paste to track pads. My car is a 2020 M2C US market. I found the F80 TIS (recommends against paste) but it looks to be related to ceramic brakes. The TIS for the F87 says to apply paste to the back of the pads, the pins and the beveled edges(?).

What is the procedure for track pads (Ferodo DS1.11) with steel rotors?

Use paste, track pads likely the same but probably isn't a big deal since the paste is mainly to reduce noise.

You're probably right, but now I'm even more confused as the two words can either be interchanged or mean something different depending on the definition

Some definitions from Webster

Replace

1) to restore to a former place or position

2) to take the place of as a substitute or successor

3) to put something new in place of

Renew

1) to make like new

2) to rebuild

3) to replace

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand

If you reuse the caliper screws make sure they really are in like new condition (the threads are not damaged, clean of debris, etc.)

This is especially important as the screws are steel and are placed into aluminum spindles

+1

Also, there are some ceramic and synthetic pastes out there that are able to withstand higher temperatures than some of the metal based varieties (which can also sometimes introduce galvanic corrosion) such as this

Every paste I used evaporated after 1 track day. So I no longer use paste. Only difference is slightly more noise before 1st track day.

Found this Ferodo document talking about brake paste, and reasons for its use. Found it helpful but, for track duty, I will be using a higher temp paste like the Permatex suggested above.

Help with brake pad sensor cable please!

I'm doing a brake pad change on US market M2C (gray BBK) right now and ran into a question. How do I disconnect the brake pad sensor? The TIS does not seem to match my setup. Is it done by removing the torx screw show in these pics?

That is probably not the brake pad wear sensor, that looks more like an ABS wheel speed sensor.

The brake pad wear sensor should clip into the brake pad, this is what I've always seen on floating brake caliper set ups on (on E36, E39 and F22 BMWs) and my M2's fixed caliper setup (but the Blue Brembo setup).

Note: there is usually only a brake pad wear sensor on front-left and rear-right wheels, they aren't on all 4 corners.

See RealOEM:

#2 is the brake pad wear sensor, it looks like it should be the same as on M2 non-competition.

Your photo is of the DSC pulse generator, #8 in:

Figured it out. The brake pad sensor is only on the front left and on the rear right. I missed that on all my research. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, good thing you didn't disconnect that. It would lead to loss of traction control, stability control and ABS. And lots of lights on your dash.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I just realised I was looking at the wrong bolt to release the caliper. Good thing this info was posted here.

I'm about to change out the pads on my M2C for ceramic pads. Came across this service manual for the M2C online. Thought I would be helpful...
