Well, since you asked...
I am not 100% sold on getting it, but if I do, this is why:
I've had one in all of my last several cars and I use it quite often in good weather. Actually, it stays open pretty much all summer unless its hot enough to need AC. I'm a windows-open driver in all but the most extremes of heat and cold (mainly because I like fresh air and because my car's exhaust sounds so goo I like the soundtrack).

And usually if my windows are open, my roof is open too, unless it's cool enough that I need the heater on (yes, I drive windows open with the heat on down to about 40 degrees F).

But in nice weather (60-80 degrees), roof is always open.

I intend to use my M2C for fair weather daily driving and around town. Tracking will only be on an occasional basis, so my interest is in making the car enjoyable to drive for me on a daily basis, not at the track. Therefore, I don't need to accommodate a helmet. Plus, I GUARANTEE that 99% of M2C drivers that track the car aren't good enough to experience the fractions of seconds you could shave off with a lighter roof/lower CG. It would take a pro to gain any benefit from that miniscule difference.

I don't need to show off to anybody or "show the ladies the sky" (in fact, I prefer going under the radar and will choose black, since MGM isn't available, because I don't like "look at me!" colors).

So, long story short, for me a sun/moonroof, or even an M2C for that matter, isn't about showing off or impressing others - it's about maximizing my own driving pleasure. And a sun/moon roof adds to that equation.
The only reason I wouldn't get it is that I'm not sure it's worth an extra $1000. We'll see.

Anyway, there's your aperture into the mind of a sports car sunroof user.

I haven't decided whether I'll order the sunroof or not. My current 2er has one. I've had no issues with creaks or leaks, it works flawlessly.

Some reasons for the sunroof:

Many people are driving around with their air conditioner on, this takes around 10 horsepower. People don't pay attention to this since the AC default is on. If using the sunroof means you turn off the AC that is a bonus. How much do people spend on mods to get 10 extra horsepower? Also the AC burns gas...if you care about that sort of thing. It really depends on the climate you'll be driving the car in.

Open air is fun and you can hear the exhaust gurgle.

When you are in and out of your car on a hot day the sunroof lets out the heat much faster than just opening the windows which means less sweat on your leather seats.

On the negative side the sunroof costs $1,000 and adds weight.

I say get one if you like it especially if you live in temperate climate like SoCal.

For all the so called purists who won't have a sunroof in because of the weight, I sure as hell hope you're ordering a manual transmission to save weight, and because it's a much purer driving experience. Otherwise, stop preaching.

Most professional race cars are not allowed on public roads. When racing their cars, professional race drivers are only focused on laptimes and places, not on the scenery surrounding them. They're driving towards a circuit finish line, not to a shopping mall parking lot or the top of a mountain pass. They even don't have a wife next to them or a kid in the back to whom they can accidentily say: "Full moon tonight. Wait, let me show ya.".

Like many others I got my moments that I like to be unreal.
Thank you. Well said. Everyone acts like this is their race car, and its sole purpose, when most won't see a track day (mine will), and for those that do, this will very likely make no difference in their lap time. It's not like they are professional racers.

Yet, they act like the extra second lap time is all they live by. And I can guarantee that their driving has everything to do with their lap times, and not the 100 lb sunroof they've got on their cars.

The only way I would give up the mooroof is if they where going to throw in a free carbon fiber top to replace it (a la M4)... Other than that, I just love to open the top and blow weed smoke to the skies.. #Practical

...but what if you are so poor (like me) that your toy is also your daily driver??? :-D

I don‘t like the additiinal weight, cost and higher center of gravity. But i just can‘t imagine a closed roof after driving with some light on top for over 15 years...

Most people are saying the issue is headroom and if you're tall this is going to be a bit factor. I've never been a moonroof guy unless it's full roof like our X1. Don't care much about the weight.

I remember that.

Although he definitely would have saved the slide without a sunroof.

That car that oversteered had to have DSC off... A stock car with traction on does not lost control on dry roads like that... Unless he's a special kind of stupid..

Wow, dude doesn't even know how to counter steer and he's driving it like that in the mountains? He was literally pointing his front wheels towards the hillside!

I bought the M2 pre-owned and the sunroof was the only option it didn't have that I would have liked, well that and the MP steering wheel but I can retrofit that. We have about 10 days of sunshine per year here and you can be assured the sunroof would be open if I had one.
