No, this is not an April's fool but what I believe the M2 Competition will look like based on the famous leaked pic.

I've tried to make the render as realistic as possible, including the parking sensors. The element I'm not completely comfortable is the shape of the kidneys but my design is based on information circulated on the M2 Competition forum here: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1459806. The actual kidneys could be more like the M8 Gran Coupe concept...

As you can see the changes are subtle but makes the front end more angular and sharper looking. The main air intake is clearly like the M5's, there are 3 small air intake slots at its bottom. The fangs are pulled more to the side and are more angular, allowing more cooling to the engine (& brakes?). I've lowered the car compared to the stock M2, added bigger wheels up to 20 inches and wider tyres front and rear. The wheels are the M Performance M763 forged wheels. Not sure if they will make it to the M2 Competition but I like them. Brakes are CCB, again probably not available for the Competition... I've made the render with the regular bonnet, but I've done another one with the M4 GTS carbon bonnet too, which will probably not be available for the Competition is more suitable for an M car. For M mirrors fanatics, yes, they are on my render but with carbon fiber caps ;-). Finally the car is in shadowline trim and I've made both windshield & side windows darker. Also since he original car was a pre-LCI, I've added the LCI headlights.

Due to the deceptively major rendering work, I will post more colours when I have more time, but for now it's in the M2's original Long Beach Blue.

Hope you like the render!
Beautiful work, Paul. Really looking forward to seeing it in other colors!

In Europe you can order the current M2 with chrome or black window trim.Apparently all the trim will be black on the M2 Competition.

Very nice render! props!

But it did confirm my dislike of the connected kidneys.
IMO it just looks weird, especially on a car this size...

The sharpened angles also seem to have a disconnection in terms of design with the rest of the car.

Great work! Hoping there is at least some daylight between the grills... The GTS hood looks great as well, too bad that is most likely a no go. I am a fan of the 763M wheels, If I end up on liking the 788M's I think I'll pick up a set.

The plastic below the grille needs to be changed a little.
The angles around the large intake also need to be tweaked.
The grille does not jut out as much as the renders make it look.

I don't recall Scott26 confirming that. No other echoes so far than the Gurney flap of the current M2.

Maybe you mixed up with the 2015 render pictured below (with a boot spoiler inspired by the BMW GT6 Vision Concept) ?

Lol, that was one of my 1st renders: an anticipation of the M2 CSL...

The fangs are too long. From the leaked picture they seem shorter on the vertical. The area around the front plate isn't quite right either. Other than that I think its pretty spot on!

Also Scott previously confirmed the rear spoiler would be this style... or at least from the name he used to describe it...

Says it all here, including the absence of wing... https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1477654

You and Paul are both right.

I googled "Gurney Flap BMW" to understand the design. If you do it as well you'll see what happened

Agreed. Those connected grills are brutal (and not in a good way).

Great job on the renders though!

I hadn’t noticed the reference to a gurney flap in the back.

That sucks...hope it can be removed.

Many (not all) will consciously or subconsciously hate the new car, but they will eventually come around.

Denial – It's not going look as good. It's going to cost at least $15-20k more.

Anger – Why didn't they give the original version M Mirrors, better seats, larger brakes... This is BS.

Bargaining – Personally I'm glad I got the pre-competition car, cost less, better overall looks, MG color available, blah blah blah.

Depression – Not much said, they will spend less time on the forum not wanting to hear about the new car.

Acceptance – Wonder how much I can get if I trade my car?

To avoid any misunderstanding: except if BMW M surprises us (never say never), the M2 Competition will feature the same Gurney flap (discreet lip spoiler) as the one on the boot of the current M2.

For the record: two excerpts from the M2 Technical Training 2015 (that can be found here):

Pre-LCI M2:

Many ///M cars got a Gurney flap. For the E46 M3 CSL BMW M redesigned the boot line, as to 'integrate' a Gurney flap (when compared to the regular E46 M3):

LOL this is a good take.

I guess the people that didn't trade the E46 for a E92 or E92 for a F82 are all going against the grain and never had to even start the coping process, those rebels!

New car/design direction from BMW. Must be better. Must like. Must believe previous gen is dated.

Don't want to anger the Bimmer overlords now.
