Makes a lot more sense on paper. I will say that if the s55 going into the m2 is 'detuned' I feel like it's going to be pretty easy to retune it back to s55 m3 lvl and beyond. For me, m3 is necessary, but damn! An m2 with an tuned s55 sounds like a beast!!!! Who needs fancy leather...although the exec pack is nice... Can't wait to see what people end up doing to the m2 comp. I'm also curious how much it'll be. |

The upside to the M2 for many is the size, or should I say lack of size. It is the same length as the E46 M3, but almost 3in wider. It just has those perfect proportions. Some like that, some don’t. I don’t think M4 owners have anything to be pissed about, they own a great car. Edit: Didn’t see someone already addressed your post above. |

It will be fast but not more. The n55 had one of the nicest sounds for a six cylinder but the m2 competition with the s55 will sound like shit. I think they will also lose a lot of interested people, just because of that fact.

I keep looking at the Seat pic and thinking the outer bolster nearest the door when it’s closed, looks like alcantara... maybe just the light but it definitely looks like it.

Yep,after looking at the pic you posted again it’s definitely Dakota leather. So someone pays extra because they want the upgraded M Seats and they won’t have the premium Merino leather.BMW really cheaped out on this one.The only reason why BMW would do this is because they don’t want the M2 Competition to have the same leather as the M3 and M4.They want to save the premium leather for the more expensive model. This is probably the first time that M seats have been made without premium leather like Nappa and Merino.

I don't think as many people as you think care THAT much about the sound. Performance is going to be #1 criteria for people buying these cars. Everyone thought it was a travesty that the current M2's didn't come with M-Mirrors and the M-hump on the hood..."What? No funny looking mirrors? Garbage. No one will buy it." ...yet it was still very difficult to get an allocation for 3 years and people waited months (I myself waited for over 400 days). Sound is subjective and fairly easy to change with an aftermarket exhaust. It's also one of the things you can very easily forgive/forget when you are murdering people on the track.

Those sport seats look even LESS helmet friendly than the ones in the M4...

It'll be interesting to see if tilting those sport seats forward and moving them towards the dash to get in the back has the same design flaw as the M4 where it would crush the sun visor mirror.

The fixed headrest just pushes my helmeted head too far forward to be comfortable. Before I re-did my interior (with custom covered, contrast stitched, bmw illuminated logo'ed, Recaro Profi XL seats ;-), I actually had to make a custom seat back cushion that strapped securely onto the seat (for track use). This would separate me from the seat back enough that my head wasn't pushed forward by the fixed headrest. It however also removed virtually all lateral support in the shoulder area. It should be noted that I've driven a lot of BMW's (M5, M6, X6M, M3, M4, M2, M1) on the track (with a helmet) and the current M3/M4 is the only one I've had this issue with... (even the older M3's did not have this issue)
