Anyway, double bummer.

Other than that... I absolutely LOVE this car.

The f'ing car is awesome.
Even with the Conti's and crunching beer cans.

Sport Contact 3 which weren't good tires 10 years ago when they were Conti's top tire in the category.

Ouch.

No I understand the frustration some can have when some cars are equipped with the best in class PSS.

I called my dealer's service department this morning. They want me to drop the car off after work. I wanted to have the issue on record and don't expect them to resolve it during this visit.

It'll be interesting to hear the "party line"

Well, I just got the call.
The party line is they couldn't duplicate the problem.
They are aware of a situation where a stone could get wedged up in the brake rotor and caliper (or wherever) and they did the fix for that.

He wouldn't acknowledge anything about the differential or that any problem existed. I called bullshit and told him it was quite well known but that my goal for this visit was to get the problem on record. If/when the noise gets worse and the diff either fries or becomes more repeatable, BMW will have to deal with it then.

I told him I was disappointed that he and BMW had to pretend there wasn't an issue when we all know there is something going on here.

Kinda reminds of me politicians not answering the question that's posed and going off to invent their own interpretation of reality.

Bummer.

Well at least my car gets washed.

This will be just how the dealers would say the rattling turbos on the N54 was normal.

Got a call from the Service Shop Foreman. He did acknowledge there is/was a differential problem with a certain group of vehicles built over a specific time period. Mine didn't fall into that category.

They weren't able to replicate the noise but did install the screen on the dust shield near the brake rotors to keep stones from making that other awful noise.

After discussing the situation with him I'm satisfied with the response and the current situation. IF something were to go wrong with the differential, I have absolutely no concerns about this particular dealer fixing the problem. It'll be taken care of.

+1 for the Dealer.

Is there a part number for the brake "screens" do you know?

I'm not aware of a part number nor did I ask.

I was told the screens are epoxied to the dust shield after removing the wheel, brake rotor and caliper. I can see it when I look through the wheel spokes.

Dealer called to set up rear diff swap

Just got a message from my dealer.

They want me to call so they can order the parts for my rear differential and schedule the diff replacement.

May 30 2016 build.

Anything I should know before I go through with this?

Will keep all posted

Anyone know if this diff recall only applies to cars in. North America? Are cars in Europe or Asia affected?

CarPlay is not standard equipment for MY 2017. It's a $300 option.

+1 for the Dealer.

My car goes in for the 1200 mile break-in service tomorrow morning. I still get the random soda can crunch sound. Probably 10 times over the past month. Typically happens at low speed turning into a driveway or road. Both accelerating or slowing down.

I plan on mentioning it to them just to keep it on their radar.

There is something going on with the diff. My car is an Aug 30 build.
