you might want to stop saying that until you see all the production numbers.

400 for the UK for the 1M.. and 500 seems to be the # for the M2..

I am not in the UK.

4 years of production. Don't believe the hype.

I think they will build as many as they can sell - such that there won't be many of them sitting around collecting dust on dealer lots. Aka, not limited production, but not necessarily easily procured either.

Gotta plan for this one!

Don't forget destination - that's another grand.
Made me more sad about it, i feel BMW is dong more like Prosche does now, lower the basic price and giving more and more options, even worst is they pack some useless options in the packages.

I could have easily done so for the past 4 years up to this point... since I got it at Euro delivery MSRP.

Crap....now I really regret giving up my #1 spot for my 235. I optioned mine to 47k ....if this is the case this is going to sabotage m4 sales ....

Very excited for the reveal!!!

Trust me, I know - I am living the P-car option dream/nightmare now - there are definitely things on my car that I wish I could have switched out for other options, but it all ends up being really expensive in the end.

Gotta spend it on something.

My daily driver (E46 330i) was 15 yrs old and long overdue for replacement. I didn't have much regrets all these years for not getting a M3. Similarly, no regrets with my M235i which I optioned to the gills in preparation for a long period of ownership. I think the M235i will still turn out to be a better daily driver.

It's definitely not too jarring for a DD - I drive it to work 90% of the time - my other ride is a Ducati. for me, the main weakness of the 235 was the incessant body roll and bouncing about. The 981 doesn't do that - much more planted and sure-footed. The engine and exhaust noise are part of the visceral experience and make the car even more fun...I am actually looking @ exhausts to enhance it a little more.

Definitely no "regrets" on the purchase - just the caveat that I wished I had been a little more patient in my searching and whatnot. My particular 981 has a few pricey options (it was on a dealer lot) that I would have liked to trade out for things like PTV or PASM or PSE. Those can be addressed after the fact, but the cost can become eye-watering pretty quickly...

Hands down, the most exciting and best car I've ever owned, and it is up there with my dad's Z4MC in terms of experience...the front is prone to rock chips, but that's the only criticism that I can think of.

Seems like a great price. Local dealer has a 228 for just shy of fifty grand

thanks. It is an amazing car no doubt. The tough thing to swallow is that a well optioned m2 is going to be less/equal to a cayman s base price. And its definitely going to be faster. But we live in an amazing time for automobiles. Lots of options!

Nice to see you are enjoying the 981. I am loving mine as well. I have "accidentally" taken some corners too fast (thought I was in trouble), but came out without breaking a sweat. Surprises me every time. The Michelin Sport Cup 2s are obviously a big part, but body roll in this car is so minimal. Not taking away from the excellent M cars, but the Cayman is built on a true sport car frame while the BMWs still have a luxury car lineage to uphold, and it's present in their handling characteristics. So, a little apples vs oranges in a way.

BTW, the exhaust on the GT4 sounds so @#% good. I would be interested to see how an aftermarket exhaust sounds on the S because even the stock exhausts on Caymans are pretty nice.

If it's only 50k....I wonder if I can swing one for a garage mate next to my 981.

There is no reason to buy a 235/240 outside of the fact you probably won't be able to get an m2 for 12 to 18 months (if ever) unless you are on a list...

Press release stated that navigation (i.e. Full idrive) is standard. If both that fact and the $51k base price hold true, this car is a screaming deal.

Well he did stress what a tremendous bargain it will be at this price point. His enthusiasm for the M2 was all over his face and quite contagious
And the 1M was 48k and it was stellar, almost obsoleted the M3 of its time (imo, flamesuit on)
