Does anyone ever do this? Got an M2 to M2C trade-in offer

Got a offer from BMW to trade in my 2017 M2 for a 2020 M2 C. Only $1,045 per month for 72 months. That's my car(worry likely $40,000) and $72,000 more! I guess if you have 39 payments left it's not terrible but still seems out of wack. Mine is paid for and 5,600 miles so I know it's a bad deal for me.
Tell me I'm missing something.

I don’t think you are missing anything. BMW dealers have several M2Cs in stock. My dealer has had 12 for over a month. They are doing anything they can do to move inventory.

I doubt bad deals will do much to help!

I think the real deal is $1,045 less the equity in your trade in. They assumed if you leased or financed over 5 years that your equity was close to zero.

I imagine over next few weeks, you could get a smokin deal on a car. People just holding onto cash, getting laid off, etc

I'll tell you what you are missing. That most people can't do math. They say "oh, a new car with the same payment? I'll take it!!"

Unfortunately this is how car sales work. People can think only about monthly payments and lose so much money in the process, and dealers fleece people all day long over this.

I've gotten basically the same offer several times for my '17 - first to a '19 M2C, and just the other day to a '20. The amount they're offering for my car is laughably low, especially considering I have low miles and a pretty immaculate car, but even if I negotiated a better trade in I can't imagine turning it into an actual good deal. They're just looking for a sucker to clear some new inventory and add to their used/CPO inventory.

Same as mssVT98
I have no intention of trading my M2 in, but I keep receiving the following email from my dealer.

"You have a special opportunity to upgrade to a new 2020 M2 Competition Coupe. We estimate you have $34,675 in trade equity toward your new BMW—simply by trading in your current 2017 BMW M2 Coupe."

If anyone near central Pennsylvania is looking for a Competition in stock, one of the three area BMW dealers, Apple BMW of York, is showing 2. One frustrating thing is dealers, at least in this area, don't list whether the transmission is a 6-speed manual or DCT. It appears from the retail cost that the SOM is a manual and the LBB is a DCT.

Just for grins, I looked up trade info on the NADA website as follows:
https://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2020...-Coupe/Pricing

2020 BMW M2 Competition Sunset Orange Metallic 6-speed manual with Executive Package
Retail $61,645
Invoice $58,060‬
2017 M2 Long Beach Blue 6-speed manual with Executive Package 23,000 miles
Trade in $37,975
Mine would be slightly higher due to the following factory options not listed
Black Kidney Grilles $400 Retail
Stainless Steel Pedals $285 Retail

Yeah a lot of people just have a monthly car payment budget. Since they plan to pay that out every month they are only concerned with what they can get for the same payment that's newer or better. If the payment stays the same it's like a no cost upgrade to them.

Of course if they kept a car and paid it off, they would have no monthly payment.

I understand that, and that very mentality makes people spend way more money than they know sometimes. You've got to look at TCO, that's the most important thing. $500 payment over 4 years is very different than $500 over 6 years, even though its $500 per month

At this rate, I would just upgrade when the new M2 comes out or even upgrade to the new M4. I think owning a similar generation car is a bit of a waste because it's basically the same on the road. And like people mentioned, if you wanted more performance, much cheaper to add a tune and upgrade some suspension bits.

Just turned in a 2017 M4 and not going back. My next move is either a M2 CS or a GT350R.

Also traded my 18' M3 CP for an M2 CP and I couldn't be happier.

While the M3 was amazing, the nimble M2 is just that much more fun and I still have room for my 11 and 9 year old.
