I used to pull the ECU of my old E90 by myself, for a piggyback tune connection, so I am a bit handy with that stuff and it doesn't scare me (notwithstanding I've got very little free time), but I need to get mine out to send it off for a bench unlock and thought I had read it's WAY more work than that and a bit difficult too, so I was going to take it into a shop to do it...

PS I found your video on its removal (I've yet to watch it) and you said "It took me quite a few hours for this video because of filming every step. Without that I can probably get a complete swap done in 3hrs."

So if I do get a shop to pull it out for me and leave the car "unbuttoned" while the ECU is shipped off getting bench unlocked, would you say that's how many total hours they should charge me then for uninstalling it and reinstalling it?
.
A competent shop can do uninstall and install in an hour. I had it done twice and that’s what it took both times (even with an unlock in between the second time).

I just got mine done by Enabled, and am super happy. Very knowlegeable and easy to deal with guy, would recommend to anyone. As far as the tune, its like I bought a new car. It's almost as fast as my old RS3 stage 2 on E85, which is something. I got the M4GTS+ map, which should produce around 500ish hp, but I'll verify this next friday when I put it on the dyno.

Without water injection I am afraid you will not reach 500hp.

Maybe. We'll find out in a few days. I'll post the dyno sheet either way.

Don't be afraid, it's quite easy.

Plenty of tuners can do 500hp at engine (crankshaft). The last person to dyno mine got 504 wheel hp, up from original 404whp. Must have been an extra nice day outside.

Yes, if you had a factory GTS perhaps. That is not real a M4 GTS map, though. It's an approximation of sorts.

I think you missed the M4GTS + part, but like I said, whatever it makes, it makes. I'll post it here. The car feels fantastic, and OEM like. I've owned and had tuned many cars in the past-- OG WRX, Evo 8 and 10 and my old RS3. Except for the RS3, every other car has felt tuned, in not the best way. Not the smoothest, boost ramp up was pretty on/off but they did make power.
With this car, it feels like it came from the factory this way, which is the highest compliment I can make to Enabled, regardless of what it makes on the dyno.

Yes, I read that part, but then I don't know what you mean with +.
You mean the software is more aggressive than the m4 gts?

As promised, here is the dyno graph. For reference, a stock M2C made 406whp and 410 torque last month. I'm super happy with the way the car feels and drives.

Nice!

Which tune is this?

I've read so much lately that various tunes are sort of a blur. I'm planning on reaching out to Bend Calibration next week.

Thanks.

It's Enabled's super duper custom M4GTS plus tune. Highly recommended, feels OEM

Enabled Let's say I'm not ready to do this now, but conceivably in a year from now. Will there still be spare DME's to buy or will you be able to do this in the future?

Let me throw in another question too for Enabled -- I have a June 2018 build M2C (2019 model year) with the earlier unlocked (?) DME. Is it an easy process to get your tune on this car?

Hah, I think so! As long as people keep wrecking these cars
I try to hold a few on hand at all times.

It depends if it has been updated after 03/2019 whether it needs a bench unlock or if it can be done entirely remotely via enet cable. But it can be done one way or another, even if it needs to be unlocked first. I have ways to make the latter less painful.

I posted this on another thread, but felt like it would be appropriate to add to this one, too.

I picked up a JB4 a few months ago, but never installed it - I used a JB4 on a E92 335i and was very happy with it. But, I decided I wanted a more "integrated" approach.

My 2021 is now "Enabled", and I'm absolutely thrilled with the difference. Coming from a big power car, I found the stock M2C acceleration to be slightly "Meh", especially with how flat the power delivery was from 5500 to redline. That's definitely cured, and the power level much better matches the capabilities of the chassis. My heart was racing during a few fun jaunts yesterday, and at a couple of points, I had to remind myself to relax my grip on the steering wheel a bit. The third into fourth gear pull from this thing is definitely breathtaking now. Good stuff!!

I second the comments about how OEM it feels. There isn't anything about the tune that sneaks up or feels "off." It's a fantastic improvement. I appreciate that Enabled doesn't shoot for huge number hero dyno runs by spiking the boost/torque, and instead puts together a safe, flexible, very easy to live with tune.
