"home-made" CF Engine Cover
my buddy Dphan2007 has started laying down Carbon fiber, fixing damaged lips, and making original products. I asked if he could do an engine cover, so i gave him mine this weekend, and he sent me this teaser pic of it curing. it's basically the OEM cover wrapped in CF (not vinyl).
it still needs have the frayed fibers removed, sanded down and clear coated. we'll also put the holes in for the Roundel and Powered by M badges. On future covers, we'll probably grind down the BMW lettering for a little bit cleaner look. Does anyone know of the M235 engine cover and the M2 cover have the same mounting points? There's a $150 difference between the two!!! |

learned a lot from doing this prototype. definitely need to grind down the BMW lettering on the next one. after adding all the resin, the lettering doesn't have much definition. also learned where the seams should go with the relatively complex shape of the cover.
i decided on a 1x1 weave to match the intake, but he could do a 2x2 if wanted. |

That looks great. Is the old cover under all that cf, or was that only used as a mold?
