TPMS - Explain how this works?
I'm in Canada and we don't have this. Can't find any info our cars.
How does this actually work and can you find the parts on REALOEM? I understand that there are battery powered units in the wheels. Are there also 4 receiving antennas and a receiving box too? I know older BMW's had the antenna's. Any help would be really appreciated.

We don't use that system. But I'm running US M3 rims with TPMS so wanted to see how much it would cost me for the "receiving" hardware. Just can't see it on RealOEM for US built cars....

I am beginning to think that there is no special parts besides the TPMS units in the wheels. They broadcast at a certain frequency. Maybe you just need to code the car to "see" them.

I don't think it will work with coding; vehicles for Canada uses the ABS/DSC to detect indirect pulsations, which alerts the driver of any wheel issues..
I don't believe BMW would add hardware that are not required in that region.. But there's an easy answer, code it and see what displays on the navigation.. Even if you're indeed missing the proper hardware for full TPMS reading, anything is possible of you're willing to invest in the cause.. |

I could see them having the same hardware on all cars minus the sensors themselves. I doubt you will find the answer here though. You should determine if you're car has a flat tire monitor system which is a passive system that uses wheel speed sensors to alert you to a flat. Point is if it has that system it is not likely going to be easy to switch to a full TPMS system because I would think that would require more than coding. I would simply buy a single sensor and get a coder to try and see what happens.

I'm looking at the RealOEM site. Older BMW's show all the TPMS sensors and receivers in the "Tire" section. For the F22 and M2 they only show the tire sensors themselves. It would be cheaper in the factory to keep the systems similar because any change will cost money. I believe (but could be wrong) that the "receiver" is on all new cars and just like pruettfan has suggested. I was hoping that someone else would have done this but it is an easy code. Unfortunately I have my winter rims and tires on now and they are Canadian so I will have to code in spring. I assume that the sensors in the wheels are the same as the M2 but will confirm.

Ok, so you have typical Canadian setup with just ABS sensors but would like to upgrade to the full pressure monitoring. I looked at realoem as well and couldn't find the receiver.
That makes me believe that the receiver is integrated into another part (maybe the alarm remote receiver). Since you will need to code it one way or the other it's not a bad suggestion to just code it and see what happens. |

Really then in theory is that the CDN just need the wheel sensors and a software upgrade or coding mod.

I wish I knew this before I dropped the coin for an 18 inch wheel/tire setup with TPMS. I thought I was losing my mind when I couldn't find the tire pressure in iDrive. Mine won't fit the 2019 M2C due to the bigger brakes. Thankfully I'll have the 2018 M2 for 4 years.

Hi. I've got a CDN 2018 LCI M2.
How do I know if I have a TMPS? the iDrive has this function to reset the tire sensors but I don't actually see any tire pressure info. Getting on the Apex group buy and of course would rather not buy something I won't need.
