A 7.9 1/4 mile? Yep, totally wrong car and goes totally against the point of the M2. Sounds like all you wanted was the body of the M2 because everything else about the car needs to be thrown out the window. You'll need to dump that DCT too as it won't last behind all the bolt-ons you currently have ordered. To go sub 10s, you need a built domestic drag racing type tranny like a 2 to 3 speed with a very loose stall.

I think the DCT in our littlebitty M2 is the exact same unit in the M3, M4, M5, etc. Changing out the friction parts and reprogramming shift/clamping maps makes her quite stout...7.9 stout, not too sure but there's one way to find out.

If I am incorrect about M2 DCT, someone please chime in.

The general rule, when you want to fast and quick in a BMW, the 6MT is the only option. The ZF 8AT in the new M5 is very stout as the car runs high 10s/low 11s out of the box, but it's a much beefier unit than the ZF 8AT used in lesser BMWs.

Yes, the DCT used in the M2 is the same unit used in the M3/M4, bit it's pretty well known the unit can't handle big power numbers and the 6MT with a stronger clutch and a single mass flywheel is the answer. HOWEVER, to go sub 10s takes a huge amount of power which is also extremely taxing on drivetrain parts. To go sub 9s is a different world altogether. That's why I brought up the domestic transmission thing. Sub 10 second Supras typically run highly built TH400 3 speed GM transmissions. This M2 will require that because to go sub 9s requires an automatic.

To go 7.9s (around 177-180mph in the 1/4) in a 3,200lb gutted M2 will take 1,300-1,400hp, a 1.3 60 foot, and a total rework on the chassis including tubbing the rear.

Thanks for the reply There are some pretty nasty 7 second Getrag V160 6-speed Supras out there bobbing and weaving down the track.

Wow, this will be quite the project. Good luck.

Me personally, I'm amazed that the car out of the box does it in the 12s. I think that's pretty good.

The first time I drag raced was in my Buick Grand National. I don't remember the ETs, but it was a 1/8 mile track. I beat everyone but a Typhoon. I did drag race my modified Corvette a couple of runs, but I couldn't keep it hooked-up, and I was running brand new Michelin street tires and didn't feel like spending $100 for a burnout. After I nearly took out the timing lights from losing traction, I gave up.

I much prefer road course, but it's apples and oranges. Not everyone likes the same fruit.

I think 295mm is the limit.

Also people telling you this is the wrong platform to attempt this record in doesn't automatically qualify them as "haters". They're just informing you this is an extremely tall order and well...we're not sure how serious or realistic you are about this whole thing. The parts you bought for the car that you screen shotted and showed us all in your post won't get you past 500whp and you'll need a hell of a lot more than that to even hit 10's let alone a 7, so that's probably why no one here is taking you seriously. Post some shots of the engine out of the car and then people will start to lower their eyebrows. Your ideas and promises alone aren't enough to impress or convince the internet. Not hating, just telling it like it is.

I will admit that we said 7.90's not fully knowing how much hp and others stuff that would need as we really wanted to make it drivable on the street also so we apologize for not doing as much homework as we should of when making .org post of that time however we still think we can achieve high 9's and still make it a solid street ride also. And we know we will need many upgrades to even get to that

7.90s is an entirely different universe. Like others have said TH400 or built powerglide, 1200 plus hp and aero work. You’ll also need significant (NHRA or IHRA certified) cage and chassis work before you’d even be allowed to run the car.

I’m guessing minimum of 100K USD budget on top of the car and that’s probably conservative.

Mid-High 10s is a more realistic goal for a true street car (though still not cheap)

Good luck with the project it’ll be a lot of fun.

Cheers,
Chris

I'm at Haltech World Finals Import vs Domestic in Maryland right now and let me tell you if a BMW ever runs 7.90 its going to be the stripped out, wheelie bar, billet block, 76+mm turbo king of car....

So basically anyone ever sane is going to buy a 6-7k 335i or 135i for that way before scrapping a 40-60k M2...

I grew up in Southern Maryland so it was almost in my back yard. Worked at a speed shop building race motors and occasionally drove my own car there. Eventually I took over driving our sponsored car. Tons o' fun!!

Try hitting 9's it's not as easy as you think.

Best of luck regardless.
