I had a 15 minute conversation that was a little slow because the gentleman on the other end was taking notes.
I was invited to call back with any other suggestions I might have in the future for M2 design going forward.
I was surprised that he was actually documenting my remarks .
With either real or imagined belief that BMW might be listening to us , I highly recommend you all check in with them and offer them your input.

I kept my comments brief as I've only owned this car since September, and I was mostly referring back to my 2016 F22 as a comparison. From reading and gleaning from your collective expertise on this forum , there is clearly a lot more to discuss with them .

Here is the short list of points covered :

Make the artificial engine noise easily deleted by a non tech savvy owner .

Make oil and coolant temperatures, and perhaps even fuel and manifold pressure part of a more visible sport display . Delete the torque/ hp display if you have to, to give the driver more useful and accessible information in the cockpit .

I thanked them for keeping the Manual Transmission option available .

I was critical of the diminished standard mileage / time warranty .

As some of you didn't receive quality Michelin tires, I mentioned that as a common complaint on Bimmerpost.

Finally , as a driver born while Eisenhower was in the White House , I told them it was silly for a sports car engine to not have an oil dipstick .

I left our conversation open-ended . I'm not retired, but I probably have more time on my hands than many of you and your busy lives :
Pour in the comments and I can make the call . I do strongly recommend you get your input to them in some fashion . We represent a small but important portion of the reason this Company builds a pretty good car .

Maybe I'm the Pollyanna here, but I was heartened to even be asked what my thoughts were.

I hope they heed your advice and incorporate some of your suggestions into the next model when I'm ready to upgrade!

If they call back, tell them that artificial, heavily weighted steering with no feel for the road or what the front tires are doing, isnt appreciated! Thx..

Yea I would go with steering on M cars.

And weight.

Farther down the list is interior quality doesn't look as nice or feel as nice as competitors.

More color options, Christ you paint other 2 series cars other colors!

Too funny. I do like being able to see my oil level on the fly without having to get out of the car (wife calls it "a safety feature") but I take your point.

Good stuff. I also hope they will listen to you/the community. On top of all the above: A shorter clutch and between gears travel, a bigger fuel tank (I can barely do 300 Kms. on each tank) and an arm rest that does not touch/gets opened by the handbrake lever would be my first thoughts/suggestions. Oh. And better paint.

My best safety feature is the clutch pedal . It keeps anyone else in my household from driving MY car

Thanks for being an advocate for the voiceless. I think most of us share your enthusiasm/critiques of this car.

Whatever car you're coming from, that F8X steering including M2 is really dumb can be felt just on street.

All you need to do is to carry a little speed and do a quick-steered turn around, every time I was like WTF I didn't feel anything and it just floated around. By float I didn't mean suspension supporting isn't strong enough, I meant just like in a boat you don't get proper road resistance.

I think they should let you do this, however doing this is in my opinion not a great idea. Warming the engine up for a few minutes before pushing it is generally a good idea, with any high performance car.

What I intensely dislike is that when you put the car into cruise control, it backs the mode off to Sport from Sport + (if you were in Sport +, that is). Where I drive, it is unusual for me to be able to remain in cruise control for more than several minutes at a time, and then I usually have to pass someone. Granted, I can pass in Sport Mode, however on a two lane mountain road I prefer to do so with the car as responsive as possible, e.g. in Sport +. Needing to then change the mode after canceling the cruise control is one extra step and annoyance. I have enough nannies in this life that I don't need my car manufacturer to force yet another one down my throat.

For that matter, I'd get rid of this nonsense of Comfort, Sport, and Sport + modes in favor of letting the driver do the non-engine mapping change via the Idrive and/or console buttons (such things as turning off traction control, into MDM). You could then just have an "M" button on the steering wheel for changing the engine mapping to the more aggressive setting.

This would make the M2 a bit more like an M1, a car that I vastly prefer to my M2, owning both.

Rev match should be selectable
Keep the manuals for as long as possible
Auto lights are a waste of time and money - they don't work very well
Add cooled seats
Make a sedan version (or something really sexy with 4-doors) - that will get a lot of enthusiasts who are angry at the next 3 series off their back
Add quiet start mode option - I don't need to wake up my neighbours at 4 am.
Apple CarPlay fights with BMWs proprietary system. Figure it out so that the two work seamlessly
Keep roof prep - I use a roof rack for bikes/skis/SUP etc....

Otherwise fun car...

Being able to sync the temp between right and left sides would be nice too.

And guys, sport and sport+ mode don't give the car any more power or performance, it just changes the steering mapping, throttle mapping and for ya'all with DCT, changes shift points to be later. It's just software settings.

I got the call this Wednesday, coincidentally when the car was in for service (1200 mile run-in) and had a nice chat with the fella. He said he'd call back next week to see how the service went.
