In case you wondered what the key icon ('dead key fob') on the right hand side of the steering column is about.

Purpose: if your key fob battery is dead and your car features the comfort access option (option code 0322 - yes, the battery remote controls for BMWs featuring the 'comfort access' option die - never recharged), you can still start the car by holding the key fob against that steering column area between the arrows + subsequently press the brake and 'Start/Stop' button.

M2 instructions manual:
"Starting the engine via emergency detection of the remote control
If a corresponding Check Control message appears, hold the remote control, as shown, against the marked area on the steering column and press the Start/Stop button within 10 seconds while pressing the brake.
If the remote control is not detected, slightly change the height position of the remote control and repeat the procedure."

The center arm rest slides forward about 3 or 4 inches if you prefer that.

Nice thread. And thanks for this post.

I do read the manual differently, in that this would also work without comfort access.

This is a quote from page 54 of the US 2018 Manual:

The alarm system is triggered when the door is
opened, if the vehicle has been unlocked via
the door lock.
In order to stop the alarm, unlock the vehicle
with the remote control or switch on the ignition,
if needed, through emergency detection
of the remote control, refer to page 53.

In the 6MT the throttle sensitivity reverts to comfort when moving in reverse no matter what setting the car is in.

Funny, in the States we have to say "tire pressure."

Huh! In Canada we also have to say "tire pressure" too... but then the car says "don't you worry about tire pressure, I'll tell you when you have low tire pressure".

When you press the audio volume button, not only do you mute but you also pause the song, regardless whether you are playing from Mixcloud/Soundcloud/Spotify. Excellent when you enter a tunnel or you are going to tackle some nice curves and you want to hear engine instead of techno.

To display the "Sport displays" (power & torque info) on the SATNAV display: iDrive Control Display | "Vehicle Info" | "Sport displays".

Put the handbrake on when you are on a hill to prevent rolling back. When you are ready to go you gently release the clutch while adding some revs and gently release the handbrake. I lived in England and that's the way they are all taught. It works like a charm.......try it.

There is not magic in any of these transmissions. It is simply a function of torque and proper clutch slipping.

Let's stop talking about it as if it were some great thing.

Easier method is to change from comfort to sport, or sport to sport + and then immediately press down on the dial.

This will instantly bring up the power and torque display.

Gotcha - I agree. Not new & not something special or rare, despite not being found in every car with a stick.

The M2 adds throttle input while releasing the clutch with the auto rev-match feature - most cars do not do this. It is only defeatable by turning DSC off.

I find the "Quick Search" feature pretty excellent. You just say it, It is not Google but it is decent and your hand never leave the wheel.

If the battery is completely dead this doesn't work. I tried using my dead key fob (my spare I never use) holding it up to this area with no luck. My SA told me this only works if the battery is low.
