Wish there was a programmable button (update: solved)

I prefer to have the touchscreen off pretty much all the time but it's a bit of a pain to have to hit a button, scroll the wheel and hit the wheel.

It would be nice if BMW gave us a console button that we could program with a variety of iDrive settings.

For me a simple screen on/off would be nice.

Can't you do that on the 1-8 programmable buttons? I have my tire pressure and engine oil.

I believe you can just assign one of the eight preset buttons to shortcut and accomplish this?

I confirm it can be set just as said. I've programmed it to my #8 button.

Assign one of your 8 programmable memory buttons to toggle SATNAV screen on/off. Easy-peasy.

Apart from some frequently used addresses and phone numbers, mine also feature onboard info (of the "Vehicle Info" menu) - SATNAV voice on/off - Split screen on/off.

Unfortunately, when I push my 'SATNAV voice on/off' programmable memory button (#7 for mine), it only works with my SATNAV and not with my wife...

Actually, BMW hard-programmed that function in. Simply turn the knob to the left of #1 clockwise until the desired volume/mix has been achieved. Works every time.

Question Presets - They're not just for "radio" stations anymore!

I know old news ...

While in the car I pretty much only listen to Pandora or a couple (currently free) XM stations and am not using any of the 1-8 preset buttons for any audio stations.

Right now I only have the first 2 programmed.

1. Is oil level / measure oil level
2. Is tire pressure

Whats everyone else doing for their presets?? Only audio?

I have tried a few other car "parameters" but not all are programmable...

Yes you can.

I typically set FM Manual as #1
Presets list as #2
Navigate to Home address as number 7(as some G chassis cars only have 7)
I-Drive Off as number 5
(if the car has it) Head's up Display off as number 4.
Pretty much everything I do by Voice commands, especially in the Face lift M2s
the voice commands are so advanced i just use them for everything.
If you have A LOT of people who drive the car, I've set it for some customers that one of the buttons brings you to the Bluetooth devices page, so they can select who needs to be connected.
I also set for a lot of customers one of the buttons, typically the number before their home address to "start and stop" route guidance.

I have one programmed for the location of the nearest brothel, one for the latest discount off of MSRP that a forum member claims to have received, and finally, another one programmed for the most current value of my soon to be worthless N55 :-)
