Will there be a 2021 BMW M2 GTS ?

Now that the M2 CS is out all I'm thinking is will the be a GTS model?
If we look at the M4 model we have a timeline of

M4 - September 25, 2013

M4 GTS - October 7 2015

M4 Competition - February 2016

M4 CS - April 19 2017

What do you guys think, will Bmw make a GTS version of the M2? The S55 has plenty more to give! Personally I would like too se a hardcore version with rear seat delete and a roll cage

I don’t think there is any way we will see an M2 GTS. The M4 GTS was a complete flop and I can’t see them repeating the same mistake.

M2 CS is supposed to be the last F87 M2 I believe is what some have said.

M4 GTS should of been named CSL and probably would of sold better by just the name change!

GTS name is dead. I believe they decided to go back to the CSL badging instead.

Maybe for the G series M2 there will be a CSL. But that is not until 2025 or later. G Series M2 is not supposed to start production until December 2022, so by the time the special editions come, it may be 2025 or later.

Didn’t Scott26 mention there was time in the production run for one last ultra rare USA only model?
Maybe a CSL......

It wouldn't be difficult to turn the race car into a CSL and the mention of a 450hp package is interesting

I don't think so. I don't think there is anything they would be willing to do to this outgoing model to have it earn the CSL badge.

Some folks is already complaining about the sticker price of the CS, which hasn't even been officially disclose yet.

Imagine what the cost would be if BMW had to go back to the drawing board and design a vehicle from scratch.

They'll never recoup their investment, so it's not going to happen and I don't blame them.

Allow me to remind to an earlier post:

On a final note: a EURO-spec base M2 6MT weighs 1495 kg (unladen) (see the specs here); for a word of caution about unrealistic weight reduction expectations, read what BMW M engineer Jürgen Schwenker replied in a Spring 2011 interview regarding the 1M (see here or here):
"Q: Would it not have been possible to reduce the weight of the BMW 1 Series M Coupé to closer to 1,400 kilos instead of the 1,570 kilos achieved? After all, a number of body parts had to be redeveloped anyway. What would have been the additional cost for the customer if the 1,400 kg target had been reached ?
A: It is unrealistic to expect a weight reduction of 170 kilos on an existing basic vehicle. The M3 CSL and M3 GTS show where the reasonable limits lie. It would be necessary to develop a completely new car from scratch – which would, of course, also mean a completely different price scale. We were determined to offer a real BMW M that would also allow newcomers to have some fun with the strongest letter in the world. That’s why we are choosing to go with intelligent lightweight construction methods, e.g. light wheels and specific avoidance of insulating mats. The chassis of the BMW 1 Series M Coupé also helps optimise weight. Both the two-joint front axle, as well as the five-link rear axle of the BMW 1 Series M Coupé are made almost completely from aluminium. Tubular stabilisers, axle guides made from forged aluminium and aluminium shock absorbers complete the lightweight concept for the wheel suspension. The weight of the BMW 1 Series M Coupé is precisely the same as that of the previous generation of the BMW M3, with comparable output and much higher torque. The vehicle weighs 1,495kg (DIN kerb weight) (with 90% full fuel tank without driver and luggage); the 1,570 kg specified are the EU standard weight (including 75 kg for driver and luggage)."
Of course BMW can still shave off some weight here and there with light-weight materials and by deleting some creature comforts, but they can't fundamentally rebuild the car and cannot make production cost and sales price prohibitively high. In the end, the main purpose remains to make profits and, hence, to find customers who are prepared to pay for a car positioned in a pretty competitive market segment featuring customers easily (s)hopping between brands.
Offer the M2 CS stock with manual gearbox (à la 1M and Cayman GT4) and the 25 kg M-DCT extra weight is avoided + it may not step way too hard on M3/M4 M-DCT toes. Don't fit the M4 GTS Water Injection system as that would add extra weight.
E46 M3 CSL: 1385kg or 3053lbs (price in Germany back in 2004: €85K (see here)):

I distinctly remember the E46 CSL, even though it never made it stateside.

The M2 CS is sort of a throwback to that concept

Sorry my mistake is was posted by ynguldyn in future BMW model information:

August 2019

One more F87 M2 model is possible. Just looking at timing, it should be something very special, with a very short production run. And it will be US only.

What's left in the parts bin to add for the CSL/GTS?

Water Injected S55
GTS Bucket Seat
Roll Cage
CF fender at front
CF trunk
Coilover
New Wheel/Tire + CCB standard

I bet I'd be same weight or more, with those addition.

Asking 110+K (twice the base) for such a car (MY2021) doesn't make a good business case because:
1) A Limited Production Run = difficult to recoup the R&D
2) not sure there is a market for a 110+k little 2 series (in the mighty USA of course).
3) Positioning a 2 series variant of old platform higher than the core M car (G80/82) sounds going against BMW philosophy.

I've ordered a M2 CS, and to be honest is a CSL lost the rear seats then my reason to buy it would vanish. There are far better 2 seat cars for less money.
