Who is going to buy an M2 track car, that is heavier than the M235i..?

Nobody...

I sold my 2011 e90 M3 2 years ago and I am looking for a new M to buy. I regret selling it a lot and the next M I get I want to keep for many years.

If BMW does this M2 right (keep the weight down) than they have me as a customer again.

Also they should make this M2 raw. Who cares about park distance control, navi, etc. Okay maybe just keep Navi because lots of people would whine this car does not have a Navi. But keep all the radar lane detection, radar cruise, out of this car!

Oh yeah, and keep this car manual only! I will be buying a manual for this car. I have a 2 year old son and he would love watching me shift through the gears. When he gets older I will probably teach him how to shift the gears while sitting in the passenger seat. My dad did that with me and it was an awesome memorable experience.

Sometimes more simple = better!

As I stated before this new M2 is going to be the "new" M3 of today. The current M3/M4 now seem to have grown in size, price, and luxury amenities. I strongly believe anyone that was a pure M3 lover from 10 years back will want to buy the M2 more than the current M3/M4.

However, the distance of the eleven pounds from the COG of the car makes all the difference in the world of dynamics! If not, why would the engineers bother?

I would only buy a manual trans for this car...but i do believe BMW should offer a auto of some sort for the M2....There auto's trans are excellent except for the tiny lag they have in auto mode when the need for speed is warranted...That said I LOVE THE RIMS on the prototype and the quad, and flarred fenders...This car will be the M to have....and yes simpler the better....i as well do not need to much luxury but i am hoping they do offer cloth alacantra seats as an option and less cost...I am not a leather guy..

Bought my first 'auto' DCT last summer and tolerating the 'lag' --other than that, t's a hoot! Of course, it helps to have access to manual trannys to fulfill that need.

Historically M cars have always weighed more than the standard series car and they have had no trouble finding buyers.

I don't think you've heard both then....there is a guy on here who owns both and says the same thing. the 135is has a very distinctive and wonderful sound...
I have never heard a 135is but I dont doubt that it sounds better than the 1M. My wife drives a 535i with the same N55 engine and I think the engine (not exhaust) sounds better than the N54. If she had an exhaust on there I think it would blow my car away. The N55 has more of a grunt sound, my engine sounds more zoom zoom....LOL.

I continue to wonder if the engine is just a stock N55 with different software, or if there will be substantive improvements like a larger turbo, or strengthened internals that will allow owners to go for M4 levels of power.

I am not sure on this, but I think it is safe to say it will outdo the 1M in every way. Which is a good thing

Dealers don't know sh*t.
New info is usually on the net long before dealers know about it.

Dealers are at the very bottom of the information chain.

When I went to my dealer to order a 1M after it was officially announced, they said:" order a what?"

If you want M4 level of power, buy a M4?

No offense, but dealers typically don't know a lot. I have been in more than one where differences between the N54 and N55 could not be explained to me by employees.

Perhaps yours is different - but the general attitude I've seen is along the lines of "buy a 528 over a 135/335/NASA space rocket...because it's just better"

Just sayin...
