Brooklyn/Manhattan parking
Hi everybody,
Really loving this forum!! I test drove the 2018 M2 at BMW Manhattan and I'm hooked! I really want to get the car but I would love to pick the brains of people who own this car and live in the city and deal with the nightmare that is NYC parking. I live in Brooklyn and currently have a spot in my building which is perfect if I get the M2. For reasons that aren't at all important, however, I might be forced to give up my spot and be stuck looking for a place to park the car. Are there any lots in Brooklyn (preferably) or Manhattan anyone can personally recommend? Are there any that allow self parking? I did some searches on the forum and self parking doesn't look too common in NYC. Thought I'd ask, though. I'm a bit nervous as this would be my first big car purchase and I want to know that I'm keeping it in a safe place when I'm not driving it. I really would appreciate any info on where the city people park their M2s. Thanks!! |

Thanks for the replies and the Waterside plaza suggestion.
Yeah, Origin, it's really annoying. The building I have an apartment in doesn't own the parking lot in the garage, the retail tenant does. So it's ultimately their choice what they do with the parking spots. Right now, we have an arrangement with them, but you never know with these types of agreements. I walked over to a Park Kwik that's close to me on Atlantic Ave to see what they were like. You get to park your car and take your keys with you (yes, it seems like it's basically valet parking in all of NYC so that's a pretty nice feature) and they want $450 a month if you pay for the year upfront. It might be the best option and price wise it's pretty much a steal around here. I think I'm covered for now, but if anyone else has any more info I'd be happy to hear it. Thanks again! |

And welcome to the forum! I don't miss driving in NYC. Even when I was up there you could typically find my car across the river in NJ so I wouldn't have to park in the city.

Might be a bit far for you coming from BK, but there is a water ferry available just 5 min away. |

Where in Brooklyn?
I've been living in Williamsburg for 12 years and have always self parked in various garages. Always paid $275 or less too... You've gotta find apartment and condo buildings that have their own garages and rent them out. It's easy. Don't use those crappy $400 valet lots or commercial parking lots...there's no reason to.

Parking in NYC is an everyday struggle, I take Uber and the trains to avoid it..
Recently, after this guy stole a parking spot I was behind patiently waiting for, I lost my appetite; so I decided to share my lunch with him.. Bon Appetit motherfvcker! |

@dvas Great info on Waterside. Thank you!
@10" Boerum Hill. I'm paying $200 for the space in my building now so it's a dream scenario which I hope continues forever. Great suggestion, I didn't think about checking out other apts/condos which rent out their spots. $275 is way better than $450. Thanks! |

I commute 3 days a week to Brooklyn, it's not so bad. Just be defensive in where/ how you park. If you park near a Benz you have a safer bet than next to the work van with graffiti all over it. Saturday and Sunday are nice and easy becuase there's a lot of people who aren't commuting in with you or going out of town.
There are decent lot deals around but the way it's worked out for me paying $20-40 for a lot once or twice a month is better than giving up a few hundred IMO. |
