M2C brake fade at the track
Hello, coming from a 2017 M2 (sold) and a 2018 M2 (sold) yesterday was my first time with my M2C on the track, I have the big brake kit option 2NH and the brakes were horrible, spongy as hell which didn't allow me to push the car to its limits in some straights. I checked the brake fluids and the levels were OK. Please have in mind that on my 2017 and 2018 M2 i could do 80 laps a day and ZERO brake fade, yes the caliper turned green but the brake feel was perfect. I need to solve this problem, I know that getting steel brake lines can solve the problem but want to know your opinion. Probably getting a different brake fluid.
Ohhhh, yes, you can feel the +150 LB at the first corner... Thanks |

Your M2C is heavier and has more power, and depending upon your driving, you are asking more of the brakes compared to the M2. Stock fluid is not really great at dealing with heat and will boil quickly leading to pressure loss and a soft pedal. You need to run a RBF like Castrol SRF or Motul RBF 660.

Typically the big 3 of pads is dust, performance, and noise. Pick two for emphasis, lol.

Can't say anything about feeling the extra weight since I haven't driven the car yet but doing 80 laps on blue brakes with stock pads and fluid without any fade doesn't sound convincing at all. Maybe you were just cruising around the track for those 80 laps... In my first track day with my M4 at Thunderhill East (3-mile), my brakes with stock pads and fluid couldn't even last 3-4 laps without fading. Again on my very first track day with the M4, I experienced my brake pedal fully going to the floor as if I got no brakes. Stock pads and fluid aren't meant for track days (especially the pads!!!). Just because the car has bigger brakes doesn't mean you can get away with stock pads and fluid. Sorry but if you have this much track experience you should know better.

Hard to compare feel with different pads though. The M2C is using F10 M5 front pads I think. If the OP used stock pads then his entire post is worthless. |

Even though what you are saying sounds logical and 90% of the brake track threads on this forum say the same thing you said, change the pads, change the fluid… The intention of original post is to see if anyone has experienced the same thing, I got my car a few weeks ago and I know that not many people has taken their M2C to the track. Believe or not OG M2 with everything OEM did not fade at all, as I mentioned before the only problem was the calipers turning green that did not affect the cars ability to brake. I do plan to change the pads and fluid after what I experienced yesterday.

like others said, some different brake fluid and pads should sort that out (hopefully new lines aren't required). still produced as a street car so you have to expect that. |

I just finished 3 days at the ring with my M2C, I did a countless number of laps and a few with Misha on board as well as some quick ring personalities. I wasn't pushing 10/10's but the kind of fade that the OP is describing never occurred for me. Either this is a troll or there is something wrong with his brakes.
I didn't feel the brake feel was "Terrible" at all. I think it's linear and has great stopping force. the brakes are not a complaint i have with the vehicle. |
