Sports gauges

How accurate are the gauges when selecting 'sport' mode, the ones that show horsepower and torque readings?

Totally agree, wish they would have put that energy into coming up with a display of value. I can't imagine where they thought this "feature" would be of any use at all.

You are better off with one of these. http://www.awron.com/index.php/f87-m2-f87dga

Numbers are metric...so for you folks down south...392 ft/lb and 426 HP @ 21.9 PSI at 70 deg F ambient (per online conversion tools). As far as I know these are fairly accurate. Definitely better that the BMW gauges.

I want one of those Awron multigauges too. Big problem is finding a shop that has the necessary skills to install it. The closest one to me is 100 miles away and I work full time.

I had the dealer put this one in. This is the type of stuff I will let them do...in other words...nothing important, lol.

the install is really easy. hardware took me about 30 minutes and the wiring was probably another hour to make sure i got everything right. the hardest thing about the install is squeezing yourself into the foot well to get to the FEM unit and dealing w/ the pins in a cramped area. if i could sit at my workbench to do all the wiring, i could probably do it in less than 30 minutes. the instructions on the AWRON site document the process pretty well. i used these picks to release the pins from the wiring header:

https://www.harborfreight.com/4-piec...set-66836.html

as for the power/torque reading, the AWRON most likely gets the numbers from the CAN bus, which is the same data stream on the sport display. comparing it to dyno runs, my AWRON/sport display shows a little higher than the whp figures. i wouldn't be surprised if the gauges display close to what the power to the flywheel is.

I find it quite funny that the link in post two provides an answer to the question, which is yes, essentially the gauges are quite accurate. Further along, there are posts recommending spending money for aftermarket gauges that do the same thing the stock ones do, albeit with extra values.
