Sounds Swedish tune-up is way more fun than an Italian tune-up - an essential to do at least monthly to shift DI deposits in the inlet tracts......

Banging the gearbox through the gears at wot is going to do way more wear on the transmission/lsd. You can do wot runs all day in gear on the motor and it will be fine (assuming engine temps stay normal).

I can't remember where I read it, but I do remember reading that in addition to not going over 105mph and 5500rpm, it was wise to not do foot-to-floor accelerations during the first 1200 miles for the health of the LSD. Something about doing WOT too early causing excess wear and a noisier LSD. If I can find it, I'll post it, unless we're not talking about break-in in which case forget I was ever here!
It was someone making up something in response to my engine break-in beliefs.

And for everyone else, I think WOT means wide open throttle and not redline. But I bet the OP meant redline.

If he did mean redline, I strongly feel it is alright to go there often.....it is within the vehicles operating range.

Now if you money shift.....that's on you haha

I go WOT often to get the water/meth to steam clean the engine lol

Tipz #2:

Remember the cup holders are purely decorative. Do not put liquid in a container placed in the cup holders unless you want to decorate the console, carpet, and the seats with the liquid of your choice. BMW doesn't want you to drink in the car. But they feel obliged to provide cup holders for the US market. This is classic Teutonic passive-aggressive behavior. And an obvious FU from our Bavarian overlords. You've been warned.

Define bad really, being alive is bad as every day you are getting older and less healthy and 1 day nearer to pushing up daisies.

Thanks for the reply. So the whole not-putting-foot-to-floor-in-first-1200-miles thing is a myth, not official from BMW. I knew I'd read something but couldn't remember the source or find it again.

I'd give it full throttle once in a while under 1200 miles, but I wouldn't go past 5.5k RPMs AND full throttle.

Well technically they say don't do full load - but I don't think that has anything to do with the differential Alas, the diff fluid is changed by BMW (along with the oil) only on M cars now.

Here are BMW's recommended break-in procedures and yes, I agree, no discussions on this - the fact is this is their break-in recommendations right or wrong.

Engine, transmission, and axle drive

Up to 1,200 miles/2,000 km

Drive at varying engine and road speeds, but do not exceed 5,500 rpm and 106 mph/170 km/h.

Avoid full load or kickdown under all circumstances.

At 1,200 miles/2,000 km

Have drive-in checkup maintenance performed.

From 1,200 miles/2,000 km to 3,100 miles/5,000 km

The engine and road speed can gradually be increased to a constant speed of 137 mph/220 km/h.

Use the maximum speed of 155 mph/250 km/h only briefly, e.g., when passing.

Tires

Tire traction is not optimal due to manufacturing circumstances when tires are brand-new; they achieve their full traction potential after a break-in time.

Drive conservatively for the first 200 miles/300 km.

Brake system

Brake discs and brake pads of the M Compound brake only reach their full effectiveness after approx. 300 miles/500 km. Drive moderately during this break-in period.

Clutch

The function of the clutch reaches its optimal level only after a distance driven of approx. 300 miles/500 km. During this break-in period, engage the clutch gently.

Following part replacement

The same break-in procedures should be observed if any of the components above-mentioned have to be renewed in the course of the vehicle's operating life.
