A redline a day keeps the mechanics away. Dead serious. (Obviously after warm)

In seriousness though the only thing higher RPMs do is increased engine wear from literally just more work being done by the engine. However the car is meant to function at that level frequently and if you never do it then somethings more likely to break than if you do it seldomly.
If you're concerned about wear just don't drive it like you stole it everyday. If you're ultra concerned about wear there's a reason grandma's are coveted previous owners. |

The only way you'll be "gone in 4 secs" is to WOT. Enjoy your car, WOT every once in a while.

Hahaha. I have never thought I would see such question here in M2 bimmerpost.
Warm up your engine before WOT. Do regular maintenance (engine oil, tranny oil, break fluid, coolant, LSD oil, spark plug at its required intervals) is more important than worrying about WOT hurting the engine. Our beauties are meant to be pushed and they want to be pushed. Of course, cops are the attachment follows after. |

I guess I'd ask if this question pertains to the break-in period, or after the 1200 mile break-in.
I can't remember where I read it, but I do remember reading that in addition to not going over 105mph and 5500rpm, it was wise to not do foot-to-floor accelerations during the first 1200 miles for the health of the LSD. Something about doing WOT too early causing excess wear and a noisier LSD. If I can find it, I'll post it, unless we're not talking about break-in in which case forget I was ever here! |

I'll do WOT once in a while to make sure the engine stays healthy. I'll also WOT once in a while for fun. And maybe a few times to make a pass.
I guess I end up WOT quite often... Also consider this - on the track people are basically WOT (or mashing on brakes) 99% of the time. This is probably more WOT time in one day than months of street WOT combined. |

On the street? Not long. If I'm starting from a standstill it's like ~4.5 to 60, and any more you'll start getting into extremely illegal speeds If I'm passing on the freeway it's only a few seconds at most.
On the track each session can be something like 15 minutes (I forget, I don't usually keep track of the time when I'm on) for 5-6 sessions. So we're talking about at least 1 hour of WOT and hard braking. Do the math, and you'll see that you'll need to do maybe 700-1000 WOTs before you match one track session. I'd argue sustained WOT is harder on the engine than sporadic WOTs too, so you really have nothing to be worried about! Just WOT responsibly (when the engine is broken in and warmed up) |

1) It is "tips", not tipz. 2) It is "are", not is. 3) Please sell your car, for asking such a question. |
